    Thumbs Up Greatest Tank Battles

It is a new show that came out on military channel here in america. I think it is pretty cool. They go over one battle an episode. The battles are pretty interesting, have decent cgi & I just love tanks. The first episode was, "The Battle of 73 Easting during the Gulf War in 1991." Saddam's elite tankers were destroyed, basic tank battalions were destroyed, many foot soldiers were wiped out, one was vaporized by a sabot round at a distance of 40 feet +.

Also, Rommel was tacked up on the inside of an american bradley tank. They followed his tactics!

    Great show, check it out!

The one I see as the best was when Michael Wittmann was laying down tracks in any battle.

Dont get me wrong, that was a textbook battle on how to fight with tanks & it was one of the best.

Probably not Kursk, although it does depend on how you count and how you define a battle zone. In absolute numbers Kursk is the biggest tank battle, but only if you count every tank involved in both German offensives against the Kursk salient. The battles these tanks did happened in two different sectors of the front. The biggest tank battle of all time is so obscure that historians don't even have a real name for it yet but it is often called the Battle of Dubno-Brody and it occurred on the road to Kiev in the first week of Operation Barbarossa already. Unlike Kursk it was a meeting engagement between Soviet and German forces both on the march, with the Soviets trying to drive their armor straight into the German flank but they failed to locate it and hence their own thrust was a big oof, with the Germans reacting very quickly to this Soviet manoeuver.

Kursk didn't break the back of Germany's tank force as is often assumed, but neither was it a lost victory, as von Mainstein claimed in his memoirs. Just behind Kursk and the Soviet frontline, and unbeknownst to von Manstein, the Soviets amassed a reserve force for a counter offensive almost double the size of the one at Stalingrad and which encircled the Sixth Army there; nearly 140 divisions would've taken part in this action and the Germans were going to be hammered by that Soviet armored tidal wave if Hitler had not ordered a retreat after the local German victory at Prokhorovka inside the salient. Instead of the Germans encircling Soviet troops in a single pocket as von Manstein wanted to do, the Germans would've gotten surrounded themselves again. The Battle of Prokhorovka (which is part of the Battle of Kursk) itself, often seen as the single biggest tank on tank engagement in the biggest tank battle of all time, was much smaller than the Battle of Dubno too: at Dubno 800 German tanks encountered 1000s of Soviet tanks, dwarfing the Prokhorovka figures. Yet at Dubno the Soviets acted without artillery and infantry support and had no means of refuelling their often outdated tank types, so the Germans made quick work of them and destroyed or captured each Soviet tank which took part in the battle. Dubno was a tremendous German victory.
