    Ancestry.com Updated "Ethnicity" Estimates

My recent Ancestry.com "ethnicity" updated estimates were a bit surprising.

    Previously I was 80% England/Wales/Northwestern Europe and 20% Ireland/Scotland.

    Now they've got me at:

    England/NW Europe: 47%
    Scotland: 30
    Wales: 12
    Ireland: 11

The relatively high "Scotland" and "Wales" results were somewhat unexpected.
For what all that's worth, apparently overwhelming ancestry from Britain, generally speaking.

Almost everyone seems to have gotten random bits of Scotland, Sweden, and "The Balkans".

This update has received lots of criticism, although every update does, this time people might be right.

Yeah. I have very little genealogical documentation in my lineage for Scottish ancestors, to have such a high estimate from that nation. My documented ancestry is mostly from England, some from Ireland.

I have seen posts by many people with no Scottish ancestors at all who should start wearing kilts and playing bagpipes, at least according to their updated results.

My father is now 8% Swedish, although all of his ancestors (at least the one we know about) were born in Germany. 2-3% might be possible, but not 8%.

I also received 15% of "The Balkans" although I'm only about 6.25% Greek and have no ancestors from "The Balkans" whatsoever. It's pretty confusing.
