Cancel culture targets ancient Roman emperors as activists reel back the centuries to make ‘white supremacy’ accusations

The statues of Caesar Augustus (left) and Marcus Aurelius (right) on the grounds of Brown University.

It appears that all roads lead to cancellation for today’s social justice warriors, as an activist group is calling for the statues of two ancient Roman emperors to be removed from the grounds of Brown University, in Providence, Rhode Island.

The student group ‘Decolonization at Brown’ has launched an extraordinary campaign to topple the monuments of Emperors Caesar Augustus and Marcus Aurelius, arguing that they promote “white supremacy and colonialism.” The activists argue that the icons of the ancient leaders, who both died around 2,000 years ago, could have a negative impact on students from minority backgrounds. The statues have both been in place for more than a century, but their days could be numbered, as the school’s Undergraduate Council of Students is set to vote on endorsing the initiative on Thursday.

Tearing down the statues “is one step in a broader project of decolonization by confronting Brown’s institutional and ideological legacies of colonialism and white supremacy,” the activists argue in university publication
    The Blognonian.

The student group makes no mention of the fact that most of the peoples conquered by the Roman Empire – including the Gauls, Picts, Vandals and Saxons – had white skin.

    Who are the White supremacists?
Not the Whites living in their own lands, trying to honor and carry on the gifts and achievements of their ancestors, and continue the civilization they left them. It is all the others, who rather than live in their own lands and civilization want only to live in the West, go to its universities, receive its medicines, enjoy its freedoms, and benefit from its generous opportunities. It is these who are the White supremacists.

    30 X 2020.

The problem is free movement and open borders which results in the 3rd world mass invasion of the White world.
That will bring about the end to civilization in the West as we know it.
It’s a deliberate ‘globalist’ plan to rule the planet. As if it were ever possible to control groids and muzzies.

The sad thing is that I hope to return to downeast Maine when I retire, unfortunately governor Janet Mills is destroying the state by allowing the mud flood of somalicoons into Portland and Lewiston.

Maine is not a wealthy state by any stretch of the imagination, they can barely provide social services to the lifelong residents let alone take care of foreign invaders. There are few jobs and the ones they have pay starvation wages unless you work for the state.

Never been to Maine, beautiful country from what I hear/pictures. I actually recall now those towns up there being targeted for forced imposition of "skinnies" on them. Too 'white' there, I suppose.
There was a minor controversy down here in my end of Kentucky several years ago involving some somali skinnies that had colonized a regional small town when they tried to establish a mosque downtown and the town council blocked them using zoning rules.
I think the skinnies were mostly there as cheap labor for a meat processing plant.

People up North and the Midwest would call Californians, Texans, Floridians, Coloradans, and Arizonans all "racist." They got the first of the open border's crime wave and over-population growth. They saw wages decline and a never-ending drug flow from down South. They were silenced through racist chants and "white trash" slurs, as some lower income and working-class citizens of all races lost their jobs to cheaper wages. Rapid transitions were unbelievable where some States became minority-majority within 40 years, and the population explosion brought mainly realtor and building jobs. If you don't own one of these types of companies, you lose. The rest of the US NOW feels the heat when the Southwest had experienced the changing tides of people.

"Cancel Culture" is essentially organising otherwise individual forms of disapproval into a bullying scheme, were it actually gets criminal. Well, at least it's in a grey area. The leftist were investigating forms of "non-violent" coercion for years now. Something where they didn't necessary need to involve government force in. And this soft totalitarianism seems to work for them. Essentially making people think thrice before they voice opposition. Well, it's a selection process as well and indeed this may lead to more polarisation and a unexpected response as well.

Northam Removes Robert E. Lee Statue from U.S. Capitol in Dead of Night

Democrat Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam, who faced controversy for dressing in black face while in medical school, ordered a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee removed overnight from the United States Capitol.

The Washington Post reported it will be replaced by a statue of Barbara Johns, who
was a civil rights activist as a teen in Farmville, Virginia. “Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam (D) had requested the removal over the summer after a commission chartered by the General Assembly decided that a man who fought to uphold slavery was not a fitting symbol for a diverse and modern state,” the Post reported. “I look forward to seeing a trailblazing young woman of color represent Virginia in the U.S. Capitol, where visitors will learn about Barbara Johns’ contributions to America and be empowered to create positive change in their communities just like she did,” Northam said Sunday night in press release.

Media reports on the removal did not include more details about Lee, which are included in the left-wing Smithsonian Magazine in a 2003 article written by Roy Blount Jr. Blount described Lee, who is rejected by Northam and others because of his support of slavery, as a “paragon of manliness” and “one of the greatest military commanders in history,” who was nonetheless “not good at telling men what to do”. At the heart of Lee’s story is one of the monumental choices in American history: revered for his honor, Lee resigned his U.S. Army commission to defend Virginia and fight for the Confederacy, on the side of slavery. “The decision was honorable by his standards of honor—which, whatever we may think of them, were neither self-serving nor complicated,” Blount says. Lee “thought it was a bad idea for Virginia to secede, and God knows he was right, but secession had been more or less democratically decided upon.” Lee’s family held slaves, and he himself was at best ambiguous on the subject, leading some of his defenders over the years to discount slavery’s significance in assessments of his character. Blount argues that the issue does matter: “To me it’s slavery, much more than secession as such, that casts a shadow over Lee’s honorableness.”

The Post reported on the development: The General Assembly will vote during its session that begins Jan. 13 on whether to authorize the statue of Johns, who died in 1991 at 56. Northam included $500,000 for the effort in his proposed state budget. Some of Virginia’s congressional delegation — including Reps. Jennifer Wexton and A. Donald McEachin, both Democrats — had called for the Lee statue’s removal from the Capitol last year. “This is a historic and long-overdue moment for our Commonwealth,” Wexton and McEachin said in a joint statement Sunday night. “The Robert E. Lee statue honors a legacy of division, oppression, and racism — a dark period in the history of our Commonwealth and our country. There is no reason his statue should be one of the two representing Virginia in the U.S. Capitol.” Wexton and Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) attended the statue’s removal, which took place around 3 a.m., according to the Post.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) also weighed in on the removal. “The removal of the statue of Robert E. Lee and its forthcoming replacement by a tribute to Barbara Johns of Virginia is welcome news,” Pelosi said on Twitter. “There is no room for celebrating the bigotry of the Confederacy in the Capitol or any other place of honor in our country.”

The Lee statue was given to the National Statuary Hall Collection by Virginia in 1909, according to the Architect of the Capitol. “In Washington, Lee had stood in the Crypt of the Capitol, where 13 statues commemorate the 13 original English colonies in North America,” the Post reported. “The figure will be relocated to the Virginia Museum of History and Culture in Richmond.”

A statue of a real man, removed under cover of darkness by a pathetic excuse for a man.
Progressivism is the philosophy of life’s losers taking revenge on their superiors.
Soak it up, kids. Destroying other peoples' worlds won't save you from yourselves.

How does Virginia or Northam have any standing at all...... to remove a statue in the US Capitol in DC???
Since when can you go onto somebody's property...... to take back a gift......... 111 years later???

Rowan Atkinson, Star Of ‘Mr. Bean,’ Condemns Cancel Culture: A ‘Medieval Mob Looking For Someone To Burn’

    Dailywire

British superstar Rowan Atkinson, who will forever be immortalized as the iconic “Mr. Bean,” has joined Ricky Gervais and John Cleese in the fight against cancel culture.

Speaking with U.K.’s Radio Times, Atkinson said that the modern act of destroying people in an instant due to past or present sins is the “digital equivalent of the medieval mob roaming the streets looking for someone to burn.”

“The problem we have online is that an algorithm decides what we want to see, which ends up creating a simplistic, binary view of society,” he said, as reported by Variety. “It becomes a case of either you’re with us or against us. And if you’re against us, you deserve to be ‘canceled.’”

“It’s important that we’re exposed to a wide spectrum of opinion, but what we have now is the digital equivalent of the medieval mob roaming the streets looking for someone to burn,” Atkinson added. “So it is scary for anyone who’s a victim of that mob and it fills me with fear about the future.”

In the same interview, Atkinson admitted that he does not much “enjoy” playing Mr. Bean because of the immense responsibility that comes with getting him right.

“I don’t much enjoy playing him. The weight of responsibility is not pleasant. I find it stressful and exhausting, and I look forward to the end of it,” he said.

Atkinson joins the ranks of several British comedians who have condemned cancel culture, including “Monty Python” alum John Cleese and Ricky Gervais.

Speaking with Reuters this past July, Cleese said that cancel culture, often fueled by political correctness, “misunderstands the main purposes of life, which is to have fun.”

“Everything humorous is critical. If you have someone who is perfectly kind and intelligent and flexible and who always behaves appropriately, they’re not funny. Funniness is about people who don’t do that, like Trump,” he said.

Cleese added that political correctness creates a problem for comedians because they “have to set the bar according to what we are told by the most touchy, most emotionally unstable and fragile, and least stoic people in the country.”

Comedian Ricky Gervais has long been an opponent of cancel culture and the excesses of political correctness in general. During an episode of the podcast “SmartLess” with Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett, Gervais said that being woke in today’s environment could be taboo in the next 10 years based on cultural shifts.

“The scary thing is being canceled if you say the wrong thing and suddenly Netflix can take you off their platform,” Gervais said.

“You could be the most woke, politically correct stand-up in the world at the moment, but you don’t know what it’s going to be like in 10 years time. You can get canceled for things you said 10 years ago,” he added.

Some might argue that cancel culture holds public figures accountable for transgressions, but Gervais said they are mistaken. For instance, if a comedian, celebrity, or anyone else expressed views that offended someone, the person can always choose to boycott them; with cancel culture, however, people are bullied into deplatforming and blacklisting others, something entirely different.

“The misunderstanding about cancel culture is some people think you should be able to say anything you want without consequences and that’s not true because we’re members of society and people are allowed to criticize you,” he said. “They’re allowed to not buy your things, they’re allowed to burn your DVDs and they’re allowed to turn the telly off. What they’re not allowed to do is to bully other people into not going to see you.”

Maybe we need to make cancellation lists of our own.
