You can't earn someone's trust to swindle if you look shady and roguish. Usually, they are too nice and try to earn trust quickly to swindle young and old unsuspecting people. I met a person who swindled elderly once doing his prison time off site; yes, he had a charming personality. Some of these types are sociopaths.
