It's really bad atm. I've had family evacuated, but luckily all safe.

The poor wildlife are really coping it, especially the koalas. I haven't even seen the video of the burnt koala crying, but I've seen multiple people tear up talking about it.
Our beauty is our power, our strength. We can’t allow them to change us, to lessen us. I will never grant them that satisfaction, and neither should you!

Allegedly bushfires are normal in Australia however the latest have been quite terrible due to droughts and heat waves. They top the list for most area burned. I've seen a video of a woman taking the shirt off her back to save a burning koala. However, the koala had to be put down later due to extensive burns. I've also read the account of firemen who were brought to tears by the charred corpse of another koala, curled up in a ball on the ground. I can only imagine how devastating it must be for those caught in the path of those bushfires... people and wildlife.

Global warming or not, they can be real catastrophes. Not to mention that bushfires can seriously impact the environment themselves, not even talking about the material damages... It's thought that bushfires may be consequence of early human (Indigenous) practices such as fire-stick farming. Interestingly enough, certain native flora in Australia have evolved to rely on bushfires as a means of reproduction. Some animals as well have developed survival strategies including the complete avoidance of fires, burrowing into the soil to escape the heat, or active use of the fire and burnt areas for feeding, or as cues for breeding (e.g. some birds). Unfortunately the koalas have suffered the most since their habitat, the eucalyptus forest is extremely fire-friendly (eucalypts contain flammable oils in the leaves).
