Agreed, I'm astonished how governments have redefined patriotism as to agree with everything they say, while at the same time disparaging Nationalism.

To me Patriotism is a warm felling to one's own kin-folk, the fatherland (Patria), if you want. Nationalism is far more political, it is the strife for a nation to rule itself and defend that rule against other (may also be the government, if it changes law and institutions).

Is Scotland a nation-state? Let's have the Antonine Wall be that border, to reunite all of Northumbria and Cumbria divided by Hadrian's Wall, as Lowlanders are English. Picts and Scots proper come from beyond the middle belt, North of Edinburgh and Glasgow. Argyll is more or less an Ulster colony of Scots, so the remainder of the mainland in the actual Highlands is Pictish. Then there are the Norse lands, primarily in Orkney and Shetland. People say that Irish are supposedly not Germanic, but why say Scottish are? It's hardly black and white in each case.

Scotland players refuse to 'take the knee' before Euro 2020 opener, but will kneel prior to England game on Friday

Scotland players refuse to'take the knee' before Euro 2020 opener, but will kneel prior to England game.

SCOTLAND decided not to 'take the knee' prior to their Euro 2020 opening match against Czech Republic on Monday.

The players instead stood with their hands behind their backs in a show of solidarity in the fight against racism. They will however take the knee on Friday when they lineup at Wembley to face England.

Last week, the Scottish FA confirmed that the team would be opting out of taking the knee at the tournament, because they felt the gesture had become "diluted". However, less than 24 hours later they
announced that they would take the knee prior to Friday's match in order to convey unity with England's team, who confirmed they will be taking the knee prior to every match.

Scotland captain Andy Robertson said the negative reaction to the gesture from England fans during their two Euro 2020 warm-up fixtures earlier this month prompted the change of mind. "For this reason, we have collectively decided to again take the knee as a team for the fixture against England at Wembley Stadium. "The Scotland team stands against racism but we will kneel against ignorance and in solidarity on June 18."

Scotland were beaten 2-0 in Glasgow following a fantastic double from Czech striker Patrick Schick, one of which he scored from just over the half-way line.

England, who beat Croatia 1-0 in their opening game on Sunday courtesy of a second half Raheem Sterling strike, received a mixed reaction to the gesture from the 22,000 supporters inside Wembley Stadium. Initial boos were drowned out by applause, demonstrating just how divisive 'taking the knee' is.

Opponents of the gesture associate it with the left-wing political activist group Black Lives Matter, and many have argued that changing the gesture would go some way towards solving the problem.

Whatever the answer, by standing in unison on Friday, England and Scotland's centuries-old rivalry will be centred solely on matters on the pitch, rather than off it.

‘Out of her depth’: Calls for Sturgeon to resign as new data show Scotland boasts most drugs deaths in Europe, by a country mile

‘Out of her depth’: Calls for Sturgeon to resign as new data show Scotland boasts most drugs deaths in Europe, by a country mile

    Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.

Criticism over Nicola Sturgeon’s government is mounting in Scotland as new figures show another increase in drugs deaths, with narcotic-related fatalities there overtaking those of European nations.

On Friday, state archive National Records of Scotland published its latest figures on Scotland’s drug epidemic. The data showed that, in 2020, 1,339 lost their lives in Scotland to drug-related deaths, that’s 75 more than in 2019 and the highest number since records began in 1996.

The national rate of 21.2 deaths per 100,000 people is more than three-and-a-half times higher than England’s and Wales’, and vastly greater than any EU nation, and the European average. The country’s largest city, Glasgow, was most afflicted, registering 30.8 drug related deaths per 100,000; meaning that around one in 3,000 people of all ages had died from narcotics in 2020. Over the last decade, drug-related deaths have more than doubled.

Scotland’s drug-use epidemic, as well as its rampant alcoholism, has long been an issue for the ruling Scottish National Party (SNP). On Friday, reacting to the figures, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon
said, “the number of lives lost to drugs is unacceptable,” adding that she is determined to make changes that may positively impact the country’s “shameful” record. However, Sturgeon’s promise of action has come too late for some who demanded her resignation on Friday. “Scotland’s shame,” wrote Alliance for Unity on Twitter, adding the trending hashtag #ResignSturgeon. Another person, responding to Sturgeon’s tweet directly, called on the leader to “stop insulting our intelligence and resign.”

Many people questioned her record as Scottish leader, noting that she had failed on independence approval, economics and investment, but she’d managed to take Scotland to the top of the table for drug deaths.

“Drug policy is a disaster,” another asserted, claiming that everything else the embattled leader touches is, too. “How about the truth for once in life or are we not intelligent enough for that?” they added.

One Twitter user agreed, claiming that the nationalist leader was “out of her depth,” and that if she can’t “tax it, ban it or make it free” she doesn’t have a plan.

Some people even said that they were cancelling their SNP membership today, saying that Sturgeon has had too many chances to take the nation forward and had failed.

Others asked how Sturgeon and her spin doctors planned to deflect the criticism, wondering if Scotland’s drug problem would eventually be Westminster’s fault.

Despite the widespread criticism, several Scots stood up for their leader, asking why is it her fault if some people are “stupid enough” to take drugs. “Blame the idiots for taking the drugs not her!”

Sturgeon has previously admitted that the country’s record on drugs was "indefensible" and "a national disgrace." Her government has pledged a further £250 million ($349mn) to reduce drug deaths.

While her party and the cause of Scotland’s independence remain popular, the leader has come under fire for her drugs policy, for an embarrassing scandal involving former first minister Alex Salmond and for her government’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

She's a perfect mouth piece for the parasites. Can't get rid of her.

William Wallace aka Mel Gibson would be the best pick for First Minister of Scotland.

Less time welcoming 3rd world immigrants, less time ramming homosexual and trans "sexualism" down people's throats and the country might do a little less terribly.I think I'd take drugs if Nicola Krankee was my PM. Hidious woman.

It is the 3rd world influx that is outbreeding the indigenous Scots and constantly accusing them of racism (whatever that is) ! All races have an inalienable right to defend their native land from invaders.

‘Out of her depth’: Calls for Sturgeon to resign as new data show Scotland boasts most drugs deaths in Europe, by a country mile 01 VIII 2021.

No problem solving, answer to everything is -
    "Everything is England's fault."

Yeah. Those evil "Sassnach" are always to blame for Scotland's ills? Sounds reminiscent of how we Southern white men are scapegoated in this country for the failures of the colored, etc. Nevermind the SNP doesn't appear to ever truly represent the native Scots from what limited understanding I have of the issue as an outlander.
