Belgium: Police Prevent Right-Wing Flemish Group From Marching In Brussels

Police in Brussels have stopped a fringe group of extreme-right Flemish nationalists from holding an unauthorized rally in the city center.

According to the Brussels Times, the Mars op Brussel (March of Brussels) was organized by people with alleged links the Bloed-Bodem-Eer en Trouw (Blood Soil, Honor and Faith), an extreme-right splinter group of the international skinhead group Blood & Honour.

Despite Brussels Mayor Philippe Close having announced a ban on the event days earlier, around 10 protesters defiantly gathered in the center of Brussels on Sunday. The small group was immediately encircled by police and several of the protesters were detained.

According to police, some of the individuals who were detained were known to authorities for previous violent crimes that they had committed.

Several special forces minibusses, officers with police dogs, and an equestrian patrol were all mobilized to secure the area.

Counter demonstrations organized by several left-wing and so-called anti-fascist groups were also banned, per police recommendations, the Brussels Times writes.

Vlaams Belang Chairman Tom van Grieken has emphasized that his party has absolutely nothing to do with this group or this event.

Funny how this works. Muslims run around raping white girls, not a cop to be found.
If people on "The far right" want to protest this suddenly the cops are everywhere.
    They're all traitors.

The demo would've been about demanding access to the Flemish government for Vlaams Belang, something the other parties have vetoed consistently since the early nineties, no matter how big Vlaams Belang got. 50 nationalists were arrested. There was no chance of this manifestation ever being allowed, even though many more people would've been present if that had been the case, as most Flemings support this particular cause. The mayor in Brussels, regardless of who it is, will always seek to undermine pro-Flemish initiatives in his city. For them Flemish nationalists are the worst of the worst, they have this narrative of themselves as noble romanizing freedom fighters while we are the evul nadzees.

To be fair, it's understandable that Vlaams Belang distances itself from the demonstrators, as their leader (a former paracommando) spent some time in prison after he and his (army) buddies from "Blood, Soil, Honour and Loyalty" theorized about starting a Belgian civil war by liquidating figures from both the left and the right, including some politicians of Vlaams Belang - it was not too serious though, there was no plan - it was a beer fuelled fantasy and widely blown out of proportion by the media and the authorities at the time, back in 2006.

According to the latest poll Vlaams Belang is the biggest party in Flanders, 25% of Flemings would vote for V.B. today. N-VA, another Flemish nationalist party, can count on the support of 23% of the voters. The other parties are in an absolute crisis: the greens, the Christian and social democrats and the liberals can only lure 10% of the voters each. N-VA is willing to end the exclusion of Vlaams Belang and it looks like the both of them will have enough seats to start a government of their own come next election. Vlaams Belang will almost certainly enter a Flemish coalition government N-VA in four years from now - and then it will be a unique chance for them to do their sacred duty and make Flanders independent.

You should never have let this go away...

Willem should have marched the army down to the South with a bunch of ox carts and told the Walloons, "alright, you're needed in France now to replace all the dead Frenchies Napoleon killed in his wars. Pack up."

Actually, for the Netherlands and Prussia, I'd have given them bits of France at the Congress of Vienna (the northern 2/5 of Nord province to the Netherlands and Elsass-Lotharingen to Prussia,) and definitely return Cape Colony to The Netherlands.
Most people think as they are trained to think, and most people make a majority.
