Has Anyone Tried Impossible or Beyond Meat Burgers?

I've tried Beyond Meat burgers at home a couple times and they're probably the best vegetarian burgers I've ever had, the consistency and color on the inside and sear on the outside was very, very close to a beef patty. The taste was a bit smoky on the outside like a charbroil and far less vegetable or "mystery meat" tasting than others I've had. You couldn't fool an adult with them (though they do taste good) but possibly a child.

Haven't tried Impossible yet but really want to, heard it's even more meat-like because they have vegetable-sourced heme.

Has anyone else tried these? What did you think?

I would not even try to taste them, the reason is what are the seasonings and flavorings added to make them taste like real meat.
There is a whole industry these days to create tastes to fool even cooks.
Raspberry flavors for instance are derived from some beaver gland.
Disgusting! Natural flavors on foods are many times just fake ones.
I stay away from fake foods.

    Not to sound offensive.....but

want to be vegetarian? - eat no meat
want to be vegan? eat no animal products

And then you look into the fridge of veggies/vegans and it's all full of fake-breakfast-ham, fake meat, fake eggs, fake cheese, fake everything of all the stuff they "dont want to eat", and the content of such a fridge full of fake food is chemicals, soy (phytoestrogen makes infertile), fake vitamins, fake proteins and half a ton of sugar and taste-intensifiers mixed together. Oh look how healthy my food is. No it's not. Processed real food already is a drama healthwise, this kind of stuff should be labeled with , srsly.

Sorry ... I don't eat burgers ... or fast foods .... not even vegetarian burgers.

Traditional, locally produced (raw materials) ... home made food for me

I wonder how many here have (for example) used this?

I haven't tried those brands of vegetarian burgers, but I quite like a Swedish brand called 'Oumph!'. They make different kinds of vegan meat-imitations, which taste and feel very close to the real thing. I try to stay away from highly processed foods, so it's been a while now, though. I see they also have an American webpage, so I think you can get it over there as well.

Exactly! I am vegetarian and I have no reason to eat or even to taste something that is supposed to resemble meat or meat products... Bleah! (No offence! Tastes should not be discussed.)

There are lots of vegetarian alternatives to meat that don't look and don't taste like meat...

Of course, I understand those who become vegan or vegetarian for moral reasons, making an effort not to eat meat. But personally, no, I'm not even curious! Only if there's nothing else vegetarian to eat, and the only option would be vegan or vegetarian burger (and be sure it's not meat!), otherwise I would be starving to death...

I did! Long long ago... I still know how to use it, I am wondering now what I could use it for if preparing healthy vegetarian foods only...

Mostly the argument is "I want to protest animal keeping conditions" and "environment issues", and then these people go and buy soy products, for which millions of square miles of rainforest gets cut down, destroying not only the local environment, but contribute to massive climate change through deforestation, deserfication and tons of Roundup being pumped into the fields, which some years later flows into the ocean where it contributes to algae growth and then you have another dead water zone. In addition the transportation around half the globe. Environment protection? Yeah right...

I wish people would finally learn to put their money where their mouth is and simply buy meat from local butchers where you can ask where the meat is from, how it's kept, how it's fed (no corn/soy for cows f.e., it's the main reason why mass-held cows produce so much more methane than cows who are kept on grassland), how they're treated, not transport it through half of Europe to the butcher in Italy or Croatia or whereever else it's "cheap" and so on.

#SupportYourLocalFarmers and dry the money flow to the big corporations, this would solve a lot of problems already, and it would be the really "moral" thing to do.

Probable you can't. Just mentioned that as shops minced meats are one of those products which you don't really know what you're buying. But if do that by yourself ... you'll know. One secret how to make the best meatballs ever .

    @velvet, I see...

Usually people fitting in with the reasons you described are militant vegans. I don't know personally such people, I mean being friends with them, the vegetarians I know are vegetarians for other moral reasons, besides other reasons (such as health issues). And by moral reasons here I mean spiritual principles and guidelines, such as "Ahimsa" (Sanskrit), which means "non-violence". That's the moral/ spiritual reason I consider myself too (in addition to personal spiritual experiences related to this).

And even in this category, of people trying to practice "Ahimsa", I know people who were vegetarian for years, and they still feel tempted to eat meat! This is what I was thinking about when writing that...

Things like environment and how animals are treated in farms... here you are totally right about it! I never considered these reasons while becoming vegetarian myself, I've heard about them much later, from militant vegans, while raising an eyebrow at it...

Let's make the difference between these reasons, and not put everyone in the same pot, alright?
