Help Me Learn German Better! (Trying to Woo a Lady)

Hi guys! It's been so long since I've spoken to any of you, this might seem like a sudden post and you're probably wondering why I posted this thread in this section (admins, please move if you feel it belongs in a more appropriate section), but, recently I have been working as a history teacher, and right now the school I work for contracted me to do teach summer classes, and, well, long story short, I met another teacher there who happens to speak German. I only figured it out recently because when her and I were briefly speaking, I picked up a little accent from her, and then the next day I saw her I spoke German to her and she was a little surprised by that, but started conversing to me in German. After speaking to her, I found out she only took classes in it and had a summer in Germany with a roommate (who also spoke German). So, I figured she was exposed to some authentic German from actual German speakers and not through some app or book, and today I was trying to speak to her in it and during the conversation she laughed to herself and said something like, "Where do you learn German? You seem to botch it." I told her I use Rosetta Stone and other language apps, but, I never had someone to speak it to, so I would always give up fast whenever I did try to pick it up.

But, anyway, point is, I want to learn better German to try and woo her. And when I was driving back home from work, I realized, hey, wait, I use to be a member here!

So, guys, if you could drop me any nice phrases I could use. Today I said to her in German, "you look beautiful this morning." And then she went on to correct me and told me I should have said blah blah... (I noticed she picked up that I'm trying to flirt with her and she seems to be okay with it so far) I'm sure you guys get the point...

So, German speakers, any ideas? I'm going to practice it a lot more this week because I want to impress her. Any help I really appreciate! Thanks!

I get better at German when I'm forced to, I think they call it immersion. So, try forcing yourself there are news channels like DT and some others. Or take a trip to non tourist area of Germany

Best idea is to have her teach you, that way you can become closer and find out if she is game or not.

How nice of you to think of us only when you need help scoring.

Disney films, with spoken German and English/German subtitles, is the way to go. Simple language and easily attainable.

From my own experience, I learned German by exposing myself to German material, but especially the audio type. While writing and grammar are also useful, the best method is immersion into a German environment and practicing it often. Listen to German videos (English subtitles help) and audio tapes, practice the pronunciation, and, ideally, find someone to practice it with. Since your friend speaks some German, you could ask her help. You may not "woo" her the way you want, but it's no shame in wanting to learn. In addition, it will give you an opportunity to spend time together and it will be more natural than trying to impress her, it could bring you two together. Besides, if she tracks your progress she might be impressed after all. German is not the easiest language to learn (in my opinion, others might disagree), I don't say it to discourage you but the grammar and word order can be tricky, it's not something that you can easily master within a short timespan like a few days or weeks. The key is to keep practicing, when I hadn't used German for a while I started to forget some words and phrases. So find a constant opportunity to use it. Maybe register on a German speaking community where people speak only German, and post there. Or post in the German section here, where German members can review and correct your grammar. Just my thoughts.

Watch German movies with english subtitles. I find watching movies the best way to learn a language.

I wouldn't be too daunted by this. Since you're almost a beginner she'll seem much better than you right now, but if she's just taken some classes and spent one summer in Germany then her own German won't be perfect by any means

There probably isn't a way to learn German relatively fast. Remember Mark Twain.

If you want to, you can simply tell me the phrases you want to tell her, in English and I'll translate it into German.

Otherwise SB's proposal seems to be a good one, letting her teach you will let you forge a possible bond. And perhaps you can also really improve your German.

Wenn der Wille eine andere Sprache zu erlernen nicht vorhanden ist und Du es nur lernen möchtest, um einem Weibchen zu imponieren: Viel Glück oder auch Waidmannsheil!

If the will to learn another language is not there and you just want to learn it to impress a female: Good luck or even Waidmannsheil!
