Russian religious identification is going up dramatically, actual measures of religiosity are not - it's like being "culturally Christian". I don't think that would wave a magic wand and make them a force for good anyway, multiracialism is bound up with the ancien regime so no luck there, they do not care at all about respecting other nationalisms even in a religious context (see the catastrophe that was the Western Rite and their inability/unwillingness to baptise traditional Western cultures) and they have an absymal TFR compared to the Central Asian Muslims Putin is flooding the place with.
Russia is on track to become Muslim-majority in the not too distant future and will have a Muslim military soon. If you want to see how they will treat whatever nascent nationalism you have, look how they treat their own - it's brutally surpressed unless it's some pan-Soviet multicult redux like the kind that comes out of Spencer's partially-Georgian ex-wife's mouth (complete with Holodomor denial, yeehaw!). The only semi-sensible reason someone would side with Russia in this stupid false choice is because they are shittier at statecraft, so even though they might defeat a weakened USA, they probably wouldn't last long after that as a world power.
