Dresden's anti-war sculpture denounced by protesters

Right wing protesters in the German city of Dresden have taken to the streets against an anti-war sculpture consisting of three passenger buses placed vertically in the air.

The upturned vehicles are meant to resemble a sniper barricade in the Syrian city of Aleppo.

They are being put into place ahead of the annual memorial of the allied bombing of Dresden in World War Two.

Dresden mayor Dirk Hilbert was booed as he formally inaugurated the sculpture.

Police are investigating anonymous death threats against supporters of the scheme, including Mr Hilbert who has been allocated a police guard.

The inspiration for the imposing monument came from barricades used by rebels in besieged eastern Aleppo, made out of upturned buses which shielded people against the snipers of President Bashar al-Assad.

Thirty-two-year-old Syrian-German artist Manaf Halbouni told the DPA news agency that the monument is intended to represent "peace, freedom and humanity".

"There is no other political message," he said. "It's a peace memorial, a modern Statue of Liberty."

He said the point of the sculpture was to inspire hope - in Dresden and Aleppo - while making the point that "life goes on, despite all the destruction".

But Dresden's far-right anti-Islamic Pegida movement has described the project as idiotic, an abuse of artistic freedom and an attack on their identity.

Protesters from the group jeered and booed Mayor Hilbert, branding him a "traitor" while yelling "shame, shame" during the ceremony. They called for the sculpture to be melted down into scrap metal.

An estimated 25,000 people died in the British and American attack of Dresden which started on 13 February 1945, creating a firestorm that left 33 sq km (12 sq miles) of the city in ruins.

The article omits why most of the protesters were actually enraged.
Because the very same mayor, on the inauguration of this "memorial" for the victims of a foreign people, publicly declared(free translation from German):

"There are stilll attempts to reinterpret history to make a victim myth out of Dresden. Dresden was no innocent city[in February 1945], that has been demonstrated scientifically. The totalitarianism of the past is threatening to rear its head again. Who wants to show that there is no place for right-wing extremism in Dresden, should join our human chain against it today."

Yes, right, spit onto the graves of our own dead and at the same time demand our sympathies for utter foreigners. Mind-boggling.
And the day they sold us out, Our hearts grew cold
'Cause we were never asked, No brother, we were told!
What do they know of Europe, Who only Europe know?

It's just amazing how the Overlords keep celebrating ISIS and now even export their jihadist "culture and art" to Europe as is manifested in this grotesque homage to these cannibals and savages.

They're really rubbing our noses in it with these little "New European" projects and celebrations.

May these "leaders" get what they so richly deserve.

Angela Merkel Greeted With Boos, A Hitler Salute And Chants Of ‘Go Away’ At Dresden Visit

Angela Merkel was greeted with boos, chants and even a Hitler salute as she arrived in Dresden, Saxony, to attend a women’s network meeting.

Supporters of the xenophobic Pegidaa alliance launched a demonstration outside of the Albertinum, where Angela Merkel was guest of honour at the meeting on Monday evening. Approximately 50 people shouted “go away” and “Merkel must go”, something the demonstrators repeatedly chant during appearances of the Chancellor, and one protestor went as far as imitating the Nazi salute. Another demonstrator is being investigated for attempted grievous bodily harm, following after throwing a plastic bottle at a media representative.

The German Chancellor arrived in Dresden on Monday to attend a women’s network meeting, where she gave a speech calling for equality everywhere.

But the German far-right movement Pegida, which stands for Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of the Occident, decided to hold a rally at the event as dozens booed the Chancellor’s arrival.

Pegida leader Lutz Bachmann announced the spontaneous demonstration earlier that day.

Around 50 people gathered outside where Ms Merkel was located and police initiated preliminary proceedings against three participants.

Dresden police said a man is being investigated for attempted grievous bodily harm after throwing a plastic bottle at a media representative.

Another protestor who imitated the Hitler salute is being investigated for the use of symbols of unconstitutional organisations.

A third demonstrator allegedly denied the Holocaust in a conversation with counter-demonstrators, according to police.

The man was temporarily taken into police custody and is being investigated for sedition.

The German Chancellor visited Dresden to take part in a meeting of Saxon scientists, women entrepreneurs, politicians and female executives from the judiciary and administration.

The women’s network was launched by Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer in March in order to promote a stronger exchange.

The visit is expected to be the penultimate appearance of Ms Merkel before the state election on September 1.

On August 31 the Chancellor will be awarded an honorary doctorate in Leipzig.

“War is waged by men; not by beasts, or by gods. It is a peculiarly human activity. To call it a crime against mankind is to miss at least half its significance; it is also the punishment of a crime.” - Frederic Manning, The Middle Parts of Fortune

How long has this traitor been in power now, it seems like forever. This must have really bruised her massive ego too.
I grew up on a belief of honour, courage and the old world values. The world isn't about that anymore, preferring to die a slow death of fast food and cheap thrills.

German spy agency calls anti-Islam Pegida protest group ‘anti-constitutional’

    Thelocal.de

German intelligence services said Wednesday that they would widen their surveillance of the Islamophobic protest movement Pegida in its home state of Saxony, as the group had become a "extremist" and "anti-constitutional".

While Pegida had previously attracted “heterogeneous” support and taken “moderate” positions, it had developed “an increasingly right-wing extremist orientation” Saxony’s domestic intelligence agency LfV said in a statement.

“By regularly offering right-wing extremists a platform to propagate anti-constitutional ideologies, this movement acts as a hinge between extremists and non-extremists,” said agency president Dirk-Martin Christian.

He added that “all people and activities” within the group would now be put under surveillance, with the exception of those merely taking part in peaceful demonstrations.

Pegida, which campaigns against what it calls the “Islamisation of the West”, was born in October 2014 with xenophobic marches every Monday evening.

Its protests gained momentum during the refugee crisis of 2015, when Germany became deeply polarised over Chancellor Angela Merkel’s decision to keep the country’s doors open to hundreds of thousands of asylum seekers, many from Iraq or Syria.

The movement’s popularity coincided with the rise of the far-right AfD party, which entered parliament for the first time in 2017 on an anti-refugee and anti-immigration platform.

Pegida has previously been declared as extremist and put under observation by spy agencies in other German states such as Bavaria.

One of its leading members, Lutz Bachmann, has faced multiple convictions for sedition, most recently in December 2020.

Germany’s domestic intelligence agencies monitor a range of individuals and groups from across the political spectrum who are suspected of extremist tendencies.

In a move later blocked by Germany’s Consitutional Court, the national intelligence service BfV said in March that it was placing the entire AfD party under surveillance for posing a threat to democracy.

Two weeks ago, the agency said it would also monitor members of the so-called “Querdenker” (Lateral Thinkers) movement, which has emerged as the loudest voice against coronavirus curbs and an active promoter of conspiracy theories that deny basic facts about the pandemic.
