    Heatwave Gripping Europe

    Hello to all ,

Shortly visited here today (Sa morning). So far the summer has been fine and my summer job has been great. I have learned a lot. You don't learn all from the books; older people (your own fields professionals) are good examples.

    Europe:

    Meantime here in Ostrobotnia +15C

I wonder how hot summers people can stand in Europe? +40C, +45C, +47C, +50C? And the dryness ....

Kyyttö cow enjoying our bit colder summer weather :

That's why I want a summer house in Finland

    (Donations are welcome LOL )

Although the weekend will be a bit cooler, only 30-32 in contrast to the 37-39 of the last few days, it was bad enough for me. That weather is killing me... Cant imagine how the people in Southern France felt where temps broke heat records above 45° in several places, and that dry desert heat is still moving north for the next few weeks they say.

Nature hasnt recovered from the draught of last year, we will get major problems if it repeats this year. Some forests are dying already, in many places millions and millions of butterfly larvae creep over fields and meanwhile gardens and houses, and some of them are dangerous even to humans due to 'poisoneous'/allergy causing hairs. Groundwater levels are still low from last year, too. Much trouble ahead if development continues with long, dry summers and likewise dry winters...

I wish I were a kyyttö cow in Finland those days... 37°C a few days ago, 35°C tomorrow... Luckily thunderstorm is announced next week.

I remember summer 2003 where we had nearly a month with about 40°C every single day and lots of older people couldn't stand this temperature and simply stayed home.

So far it's not as hot as in the South of Europe, the weather for the upcoming weak is forecast between 20-27 Celsius. At the moment it's 20-22 Celsius. But I live closer to a mountainous area. However, the heatwave is probably going to catch us up in July and August. July is colloquially called "the month of the oven" because it gets extremely hot, maximum temperatures reach a little bit over 40 especially in the cities. I remember when I was a child in summer it was rarely over 35 degrees, typically in the mid and upper 20s. A lot of peoples go to the seaside in summer where temperatures are a little bit milder due to coastal influences. I'm also going with my husband to the Black Sea for our summer holidays. Personally, my upper limit which I can withstand is in the early to mid 30s. The late 30s to 40s Celsius is where I get highly uncomfortable. I feel like roasting, and my skin burns. My ideal summer temperature would be the early to mid 20s Celsius. In the summer I wear sunscreen on my skin and face, and always keep a hat and sunglasses for protection.

    Last summer was scary.

So many forest fires in Sweden that we needed firefighters from around Europe to help us out.

And it was the first time I'd ever experienced 35 C temperatures, it was unreal. What will 2019 bring?

The temperature in coastal region waters seems nice for once, though.

You should spend a summer in the lower Midwest or the Deep South of the US. You'll really find out what heat and humidity is.

I am in South Florida. I'm staying in today. I have no idea what the temperature is outside today but this past week, with the humidity/heat index, it felt like 102 degrees (Fahrenheit).

It's important to stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water. I recommend carrying a bottle of cold water everywhere you go.
