Why Doesn't the US Just Use the Metric System?

The reason Americans don’t use the metric system is a story spanning over 200 years, with a twist ending: America is a metric country, Americans just don't know it.

It would cost billions for a changeover.
I'm a retired Aerospace Quality engineer. I was raised with the metric system in the old country, had a hard time for a while to get used to the American system.
Same could be said about the English? Why can't they drive on the right side of the road?

I personally wish the US would switch to metric. All of my smithing tools are metric, yet coal and steel are by the ton and steel bar sizes are US standard sizes, sometimes it get frustrating to say the least.
Life is like a fire hydrant- sometimes you help people put out their fires, but most of the time you just get peed on by every dog in the neighborhood.

Metric is a one-world measurement system. It is anti-nation state. It came out of the terror of the French Revolution.

The US is a defacto dual-system country. Science & tech in the US use metric. Prescription drugs are measured by milligram. I have tools kits in both US & metric. Milk is sold by the gallon but soda pop is sold in two liter bottles. We measure speed and distance in miles/mph and land is by the acre, square foot, rod (16 1/2 feet), chain (66 feet) & furlong (660 feet). The US Navy uses nautical miles for distance and speed - one minute of latitude or 6076 feet.

Why does the World care if the US uses the US/Imperial System?

Because we have to deal with you guys.

For example, if watching an American-produced documentary about some subject, and the narrator starts speaking of feet and yards, or bushels and ounces, I'm immediately thrown off, and spend the next couple of minutes trying to figure out exactly what that would amount to in metric terms instead of focusing on the following narration.

I use the metric system when I have to take measurements for my own use. It is so much easier than Imperial measurement.
