I never heard of any of these. I never studied Germanic battles. Are these battles taught to European children in European schools or did you study these on your own?

Life is like a fire hydrant- sometimes you help people put out their fires, but most of the time you just get peed on by every dog in the neighborhood.

Battle of the Teutoburg Forest, Great Conspiracy, anything involving the Vandals.

I never stopped to think about it. I know that it's the worst kind of answer, but I'll say it anyway: all of them have something interesting about them.

'Well, what are you?" said the Pigeon. "I can see you're trying to invent something!" "I-I'm a little girl," said Alice, rather doubtfully. She found herself at last in a beautiful garden, among the bright flower-beds and the cool fountains.

They're more or less famous battles, with the exception of the Battle of Kwatrecht - that was just a local, brief and fierce engagement in my home region during the Blitzkrieg - it was even mentioned by the German press at the time, as over 100 German soldiers died in the fighting for the fortified town of Kwatrecht. Which is why it interests me so much, it's nearby with a still recognisable battle space. My high school was part of the former battlefield and to this day there are dozens of bunkers to be found in and around the school. The German KIA were temporarily buried in the garden of the school after the battle. This battle was part of my life before I ever heard of it.

Incidentally, my old high school became a Napola-school during WW2 after the battle, namely SS-Reichsschule Flandern. A new Flemish elite was educated by the Germans there, these students would've been the leaders of Flanders if Germany had won the war. Some of the buildings still had swastika floor tiles back in the Nineties, when I was in HS - and we all wore brown uniforms too, the students still do to this day. But that's a story for another time.

I think the Flemish kids only ever hear of the Battle of the Marne (in passing) and Third Ypres in school. I guess Third Ypres is mentioned because it's local to Flanders and it's the biggest military confrontation ever seen over here and it's a symbol for WW1 as a whole. People around the world know that battle as "the battle of Passchendaele" - which was really just the final episode of a long, drawnout campaign known as "Third Ypres" today.

Verdun & Market Garden ("the battle of Arnhem") fell just outside of my top ten.
“War is waged by men; not by beasts, or by gods. It is a peculiarly human activity. To call it a crime against mankind is to miss at least half its significance; it is also the punishment of a crime.” - Frederic Manning, The Middle Parts of Fortune
