Electricity in the USA : Split Phase , Single Phase , 3-Phase ?

The electric power brought to the house connection box
from the Power Company (PoCo) seems to be
different in the USA and Canada , than in the rest
    of the world .

In White Northern America and perhaps overseas territories ,
there are just two hot power wires connected to a common
current consumer's place , instead of the usual 3 hot wires
of "turning" current , plus the usual Neutral , PEN and / or
    Ground wire .

I had to look up Wikipedia , because I had thought ,
that the Northern American electricity distribution
just differed in the Voltage , but not fundamentally
    in any other relations .

It seems , that there is a fundamental different
approach in low current AC power distribution ,
than just laying a 3-phase cable to the house
connection panel , and then splitting the three
phases into single wires supplying different
areas of the apartment or house .

Northern America just uses 2 phases of the 3-phase
Drehstrom , with the reminding phase doing what ?
    and leading where ?

If I understand correctly , the third phase just isn't
used , but at the next transformer point or station
is shifted for one of the former used phases ,
and the former used phase now becomming the
    unused 3. phase ...

Could some members here explain their connection
to the electricity grid , when not deploying modern
    3-phase alternate current ?

Overall there seems to be a medium huge off-grid
market in North America , including Akkumulators / Batteries ,
    Charge Controllers , Inverters .

Since Solar Power is becomming much more popular ,
probably because becomming more affordable ,
it would be interesting to hear your stories about
    electric current , amps , voltages , DC/AC , PoCos .

    Except for voltage, phase, etc.:
Isn't there a country difference in frequency as well?

    Off-Grid : Some basics

Although , I do not agree with a few points ,
I think , that this website could be interesting .

It is a commercial enterprise , but never the less , it shows ,
that at least parts of the USA a different ...

The Perkins-Generator is worth a look at .

They of course "ship" batteries , and of course want to sell sealed
, AGM , Gel Sulphuric Acid lead batteries , since they cause no
"flooding" at rugged postal handling with cracks .

But , their argument is about the lazyness of the operators , not
maintaining the Flooded Liquid Acid batteries enough , as once a month
    refilling of distilled water .

I have 100 amp 110/220 service at my home. One leg supplies the main house electricity and both legs of the 110 feed power the range, air conditioner, and water heater.

Three phase power is a special order at extra cost, but is typically used to wire up a shop or garage where welders, lathes, and mills are used as either a business or hobby.

Minuteman II and III ICBM launch facilities are wired for three-phase 480 VAC as primary power. Voltage transformers and frequency converters are used for rack drawers and missile power for voltages at 115VAC @ 400 Hz. The motor generator runs on the 480VAC three-phase and runs the voltage transformers and converters.
American by birth, made of parts from Emmingen, Baden-Württemberg.

Did you serve at an Inter Continental Ballistic Missle lauch facility , while in the army ?

    What is a 'range' ?

Here the 3 phases come from the grid to the main electricity panel , and are "split" into three different Legs , whith each their own Neutral and Ground , usually called single or mono phases , which then would supply different storeys or corners in a house or flat .

ICBM Launch Facilities (LF's) and Launch Control Facilities (LCF's) are under the control of the US Air Force. LF's and LCF's need periodic maintenance for which various maintenance teams are dispatched depending upon the system involved. LF's are unmanned. LCF's have a topside support building and the underground crew LCC and support building. I was an Electro-Mechanical Team Chief for the LGM-30F MMII ICBM.

A range is a stove, oven, cooktop, etc.
