Britons travelling to conflict zones could face 10 years in jail

British citizens who go to designated conflict zones could face up to 10 years in prison under a new law. Enacted on Friday, the Counter-Terrorism and Border Security Act 2019 creates a criminal offence of entering or remaining in a "designated area" overseas.

The measure, unveiled by ministers last year, allows the United Kingdom home secretary to designate an area, subject to parliamentary approval. According to Home Secretary Sajid Javid, the law gives "police the powers they need to disrupt terrorist plots earlier and ensure that those who seek to do us harm face just punishment". The Act also gives border guards the power to stop and search individuals without suspicion on the grounds of tackling "hostile state" activity. It also criminalises viewing "terrorist-linked" material online.

Exemptions have been included in the legislation for people with legitimate reasons for being in a designated area, including journalists, aid workers and those attending a funeral.

The measure won't allow prosecutions retrospectively, so those who fought with the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL or ISIS) are exempt. However, officials have said the law will assist if a similar outflow of fighters is seen in a future conflict.

    Human rights concerns

Human rights watchdogs and press freedom campaigners have raised serious concerns about the legislation. In a joint statement signed last year by nine organisations, including Index on Censorship and Reporters Without Borders, the groups warned that the "vaguely defined" crime of hostile state activity would provide border guards wide-ranging powers to stop, search and detain British citizens.

According to UK Home Office estimates, more than 900 individuals "of national security concern" have travelled to take part in the conflict in Syria. About 20% of those people have been killed overseas, while about 40% have returned to the UK, according to the Home Office. Figures disclosed in the House of Commons last year suggested about 10% of returnees have been prosecuted over "direct action" in Syria.

The enactment of the new law comes weeks after the UK decided to revoke the citizenship of Shamima Begum, a British teenager who travelled from London in 2015 to ISIL-controlled Syria. Begum's case created a media frenzy when the now 19-year-old appealed in a television interview in February to be allowed to return home with her newborn son.

Lisa Smith will be subject to security assessment on arrival in Ireland

It was revealed yesterday that Irish Citizen Smith, who was married to an Islamic State fighter and lived in Syria until Turkey’s recent incursion into the country, is due to be repatriated to Ireland.

LISA SMITH WILL have to undergo a security assessment when she returns to Ireland in the coming weeks, security sources have confirmed. Smith, a former member of the Irish Defence Forces, had been captured by Kurdish forces in northeast Syria after Islamic State fighters lost control of their final stronghold. She was being held with her two-year old daughter in the Al-Hawl displacement camp for the wives and children of Islamic State (IS) fighters.

The 38-year-old woman reportedly fled the camp with her daughter when the recent Turkish military incursion began. Yesterday Turkey said it was in the process of deporting 20 ‘foreign jihadists’ and said two Irish citizens were among those who were to be repatriated. It is understood that the two are Lisa Smith and her daughter.

Members of the Irish Defence Forces had already been dispatched to the border area between Syria and Turkey to bring Smith and her child home. Now it looks likely she will return to Ireland in a matter of weeks. The Department of Foreign Affairs is believed to have issued Smith and her child with emergency documents so they can travel home. Sources have said Smith will be subject to a security assessment when she arrives back in Dublin to determine whether she poses a risk to the State.

Gardaí have been tasked with generating a risk assessment report on Smith and are in the process of gathering information from those who served with her and who were her commanders at the time. Smith has repeatedly claimed that she never once held a firearm or instructed ISIS fighters on how to assemble, maintain or fire weapons. This is something which gardaí are investigating and she will be interviewed on her return.

Never held a gun since she left? A couple days ago The Sun newspaper had a big photo of her dressed in a bin bag holding a rifle in Tunisia. Take a look at her here

    https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/isis-bride-smith-posed-with-guns-before-heading-to-syria-tp7pp9fck

She should never set foot outside a prison.

As an Irish citizen she has a right to return but what I can’t believe is the amount of taxpayers money being spent on someone who willingly went to join one of the most brutal organisations the world has ever seen.. If I got lost in northern Syria I’m sure the government wouldn’t fly out several members of the Army Ranger Wing to bring me home safely. Gay Leo has ruled out use of the government jet so she will have to be flown home commercially, the poor lamb. ISIS isn’t the type of organisation to tolerate freeloaders so you can be sure that anyone who joined would be required to make an active contribution. Whether she held a gun or not she freely supported the aims and methods of ISIS and is fully complicit in their atrocities. That such a person should have more spent on their well being than is spent on any law abiding citizen who needs help in Ireland is sickening.

Fu#k her leave her to rot.

Ireland, no longer with a backbone, is the most politically correct nation in Europe, and agrees to everything the EUssr says as well as every minimal minority group. This is to maintain that status as ‘the most politically correct nation in Europe’.

It doesn't matter that the majority of Irish people are in favour of leaving her where she is.

Rep. of Ireland needs a political movement that put Irish people first and foremost.

These desert dwelling religious fanatics have no desire to assimilate peacefully into European culture. They simply want to destroy it... And they must be stopped from achieving their depraved mission!

But when are the indigenous populations going to stop and put up a decisive fight?

Have the Jews and Communists completely destroyed their will to survive by manipulating them with sociology and psychology over the last several decades?

"We are going to slaughter you!"

Aside from an ever increasing number of mortals who have willfully chosen to worship Satan and his minions, our battle has always been against the powers and principalities operating surreptitiously throughout this twisted world.

Lisa Smith arrested on suspicion of terrorist offences after returning to Ireland

LISA SMITH HAS been arrested by gardaí this morning after arriving back in Ireland.

The former Defence Forces member who was married to an Islamic State (IS) fighter landed with her daughter at Dublin Airport shortly before 10.30am on board Turkish Airlines flight 1975 from Istanbul. She was being accompanied by three consular officials from the Department of Foreign Affairs, members of the Army Ranger Wing, and a Turkish security officer. The Irishwoman was arrested by gardaí shortly after the flight landed on suspicion of terrorist offences following her deportation from Turkey. She is currently being detained at a South Dublin Garda station under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act 1939. Smith’s daughter is now being cared for by relatives, gardaí have said.

In a statement this morning, Minister for Justice Charlie Flanagan said:

“On her arrival in Dublin, Lisa Smith was met by An Garda Síochána. In the case of Ms. Smith’s child, established procedures for her care will be followed.

“An Garda Síochána and the Director of Public Prosecutions are responsible for criminal investigations based on facts and evidence in all cases and it would not be appropriate for me to comment on those matters,” he added. “This is a sensitive case and I want to reassure people that all relevant State agencies are closely involved. “A multi-agency network is in place here comprising agency personnel who engage on an ongoing basis with international colleagues regarding emerging practice in relation to the complex issue of radicalisation. This network will coordinate engagement on a case by case basis as and when appropriate,” Flanagan said.

Smith had lived in Syria until Turkey’s recent incursion into the country. She had been captured by Kurdish forces in northeast Syria after Islamic State fighters lost control of their final stronghold. She was being held with her two-year old daughter in the Al-Hawl displacement camp for the wives and children of Islamic State (IS) fighters.

A garda investigation into the Irishwoman’s activities while with the terrorist group in Syria is continuing.
Speaking yesterday, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said that gardaí “are going to want to speak to” Smith upon her arrival in Ireland. He said:
They may be in a position to charge her. If they do, then prosecution may follow.
Tusla – the Child and Family Agency – is also involved in welfare plans for Smith’s child, it emerged earlier this week.

She made her choice. I’d like to see the PAC investigate how much tax payers money has been wasted on bringing her back to a country she turned her back on.

There will be no investigation as the politically correctness card is played .

This whole case makes me so angry. This woman was part of a movement that murdered and tortured tens of thousands of people and I’m sure would happily be still doing so if ISIS hadn’t been defeated yet the government is falling over itself to make sure she is safe, well and taken care of. Concern she never showed to her victims. You can be sure she won’t spend a day in jail as her crimes weren’t committed in Ireland and they won’t be able to prove any specific crime so she will be fast tracked for a free house to keep her out of the public eye and a have a cushy life on welfare. Absolute disgrace.

Good old Ireland if your son father mother or brother were injured in an other country your family need to set up a go fund me page to get you home but go to another country to fight and kill and we will send top brass over to bring you home not that long ago since we did same for guy in Egypt even though him and his sisters went to get involved in protests… He was given slot on last late so let’s hope lusa gets same treatment we wouldn’t want her feeling left out, now would we?

Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) member Lisa Smith granted bail

FORMER IRISH DEFENCE forces soldier Lisa Smith, who is facing trial accused of ISIS membership, has been granted bail with strict conditions including an internet and social media ban.

The former soldier, who left Ireland and married after she converted to Islam, had been found in a Syrian refugee camp, and after a trek to Turkey with her daughter, aged two, she was brought back to Ireland on December 1 last. However, on arrival she was arrested and questioned for three days before she was charged with being a member of the middle eastern terror group.

She had bail refused on 4 December at Dublin District Court, and she has been held at Limerick Prison since then. Family members were caring for her child.

The 37-year-old brought her renewed bail application to the High Court in Cloverhill today. She will be able to take up bail and must comply with a litany of conditions once she lodges €500 and a further €1,000 is put forward by an independent surety. Until then she has to remain in prison.

    Evidence

Mr Justice Robert Eagar made an order restricting the publication of evidence in support of the objection to bail to protect the integrity of the jury system. He said the outcome and any conditions, if conditions were imposed could be reported.

Her charge sheet states: “That you the said Lisa Marie Smith between October, 28 2015 and December 1, 2019, both dates inclusive, outside the State, did commit an act which if committed in the State would constitute an offence under Section 21 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939, as amended by Section 5 of the Criminal Justice (Terrorist Offences) Act 2005, in that you were a member of a terrorist group which is an unlawful organisation, to wit an organisation styling itself the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) also known as Dawlat al-Iraq al-Islamiyya, Islamic State of Iraq (ISI), Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and Dawlat al Islamiya fi Iraq wa al Sham, otherwise known as ‘Da’esh’ and the Islamic State in Iraq and Sham.

It is an offence contrary to the Criminal Justice (Terrorist Offences) Act 2005.”

Smith joined the Irish Defence Forces after leaving school in 2000 and also served with the Air Corps on the government jet. Special Detective Unit (SDU) Sergeant Gareth Kane objected to bail, citing the seriousness of the case and possible flight risk.

Michael O’Higgins SC for Ms Smith and Emmet Nolan BL for the State agreed with the order and to ban the media from publishing her address, but allowing reporters say she will reside at a location in the north east of the country.

Wearing a grey overcoat and a black hijab with her face visible, Smith sat behind a glass barrier for most of the bail hearing. Visibly upset, she got into the witness box and after swearing on the Koran, she asked for bail to be with her child. She agreed with O’Higgins that she would comply any order made by the court. O’Higgins submitted that risk of flight was low. “She has a child here, her immediate concern is for her child, and this is a very strong anchor.”

In his ruling, Mr Justice Eagar said Smith was accused of membership of a terrorist organisation. It was serious offence that could result in an eight-year sentence, he said. However, he continued, she was entitled to the presumption of innocence and the presumption of bail, which precedent states must be granted in most cases.

The court was satisfied that no warrants had been issued for the accused and she had no prior convictions. He held that the refusal of bail was not necessary. Bail was set in Smith’s own bond of €500 which has to be lodged and the judge required an independent surety in the sum of €5,000 who must lodge €1,000. She must reside at an address in the north east, sign on at a garda station twice daily from 10am – 1pm and 3pm – 6pm. She was ordered to obey a curfew.
Mr Justice Eagar told her she would have to remain indoors from 8pm and not leave until 7am. He told her she cannot leave the jurisdiction or apply for new travel documentation, having already lost her passport. Mr Justice Eagar told her she must provide gardai (Police) with a contact mobile phone number within 48 hours of taking up bail. The judge warned her that she must answer the phone if rung by gardai and if she failed to do so it would be a breach of bail. This would result in her going back into custody.

    Social media ban

He also banned her from accessing the internet or using any social media, and the final condition was that she must not have contact with non-Garda witnesses in the case. She will face her next hearing on 8 January next at Dublin District Court. The Director of Public Prosecutions has directed trial on indictment. She is to be served with a book of evidence and possible further charges are contemplated. At her first hearing on December 4, Smith’s solicitor had pleaded for bail, telling the District Court his client had come back to Ireland after walking with her toddler daughter, “through bombs, poverty, and cesspit camps, and desert, to come to her country of origin”.

Former Defence Forces member Lisa Smith granted bail19 XII 2019.

A lot of the Irish public thought her Irish citizenship should simply had been revoked. Rather the Rep of Ireland government couldn't have done more to accommodate her and bring her back to Ireland.

Divided Norway Brings Back 'Daesh Bride' With Two Kids

The woman has been living in Syria since 2013, having changed several jihadi spouses in the process. In October 2019, the woman was charged with participating in the terrorist organisations Jabhat al-Nusra* and Daesh*.

Norwegian authorities have decided to bring a 29-year-old Pakistani-Norwegian woman with two children back home from the Al-Hol camp in northern Syria, national broadcaster NRK reported. “This is being done on a humanitarian basis, because we fear there that one of the children, [a five-year-old], is sick," Foreign Minister Ine Eriksen Søreide of the Conservative Party said at a press conference. Søreide emphasised that the extraordinary circumstances had led to the woman and her two children being brought home despite the government's policy not to return adults associated with Daesh back to Norway. She described the deviation as an “extremely demanding job”. “The government does not want to help return adults who have joined Daesh,” she assured, stressing that it was “necessary” to bring home the sick child's sister and mother as well. She also made it clear that Norwegian nationals who have returned to Norway after joining Daesh in Syria shall be prosecuted and referred to the Police Security Service (PST) for further information.

The woman reportedly travelled to Syria in 2013. There, she married Norwegian jihadist Bastian Vasquez, who was already known for his extreme attitudes. When Vasquez was killed, the woman re-married. The 29-year-old woman has subsequently spent an extended period of time in the Kurdish-controlled Al-Hol camp in northern Syria with her two children. In October 2019, she was charged with participating in the terrorist organisations Jahbat al-Nusra and Daesh. Her transfer has been confirmed by several parts, including Abdulkarim Omar, the head of foreign affairs in the de facto Kurdish-administered part of Syria.

According to a Syrian doctor, the sick boy probably suffers from cystic fibrosis, but the diagnosis has not been confirmed by any other doctor. The decision caused a rift within the Norwegian government. Oil and Energy Minister Sylvi Listhaug of the right-wing Progress Party suggested that the mother “cynically used her child”, voicing neither sympathy nor forgiveness for the Daesh widow.

“The Progress Party has been willing to bring back the sick child. But our condition has been that it should happen without his mother following suit. The child in question could have received help earlier. Unfortunately, the mother has cynically used her child to get herself back to Norway,” Listhaug stressed.

Progress Party Jon Helgheim called the mother “irresponsible” and accused her of “putting her own needs ahead of her children's”. He also said that the Progress Party opposes anyone having joined the terrorist cause to return to Norway.

On the other hand, the Liberals and the Christian Democrats rejoiced. Liberal MP Abid Raja called the decision “gratifying”, lauded Søreide for having taken the right decision, and stressed that saving lives must always be the single most important thing for Norway. He also stressed that the mother must be prosecuted if she has done something wrong. “We Liberals are happy and relieved that these innocent and vulnerable children and their mother are now safely on their way home,” Liberals leader Trine Skei Grande said.

The Christian Democrats, who have long fought for taking back “Daesh children”, also triumphed. In the words of their parliamentary leader Hans Fredrik Grøvan, the Christian Democrats are “very happy to show charity in practice”.At least 11 women travelled from Norway to Syria. So far, Norway has reclaimed fiveDaesh orphans”.

    * Jabhat al-Nusra and Daesh (ISIS/ISIL/IS) are terrorist organisations banned in Russia and other countries.

Norway’s Coalition Government Collapses Over Policy on Return of Suspected ISIS Bride

The government of Norway has collapsed following a dispute over the return of a woman who is suspected of joining the radical Islamist terrorist group ISIS.

Centre-right libertarian group the Norwegian Progress Party (FRP) withdrew its coalition support Monday, collapsing the governing coalition. The Conservative Prime Minister Erna Solberg no longer holds a majority in parliament.

The decision by the FRP to leave the coalition was sparked by the government’s decision last week to allow the return of a woman who left Norway in 2013 to live in an area of Syria controlled by the Islamic State jihadist group.

The unnamed woman, who is believed to be from a Norwegian-Pakistani family in Oslo, was given permission to return to Norway to seek medical care for one of her two children. She was arrested upon her return on suspicion of joining the terrorist group.

“We do not compromise with people who have voluntarily joined terrorist organizations. It made the cup run over”, said FRP leader Siv Jensen according to the Norwegian paper Aftenposten.

“There is no longer any basis for FRP to continue in government”, she added.

“I respect that Frp has a different view because this was a difficult trade-off. For me, it was right that the boy came home to Norway and thus got help”, said Prime Minister Solberg.

Solberg is expected to govern from a minority position, as Norway does not have a provision in its constitution for an early election. The next scheduled election will not take place until September of 2021 according to Deutsche Welle, meaning the country could face months of political stagnation under a government unable to pass laws.

The recent repatriation of the alleged ISIS bride comes in stark contrast to the stated policy of the Norwegian government, which has been actively stripping residence permits and deporting those affiliated with the Islamic State since May of last year.

Countries across Europe have been grappling with what to do with citizens who joined terrorist groups in the Middle East, following the destruction of the so-called ISIS Caliphate. In November Germany repatriated a suspected ISIS bride along with her three children, marking the first instance the country repatriated a female Islamic State member.

There is no such thing as a a Norwegian-Pakistani. They will never be Norwegian. One could dump ALL of Bolivia into Japan ... and they will never be Japanese. Japan would be much better off with illiterate Bolivian peasants from the Altiplano than Norway is with "immigrants" (actually, invaders) from the Islamic world.

No Christians need apply to Norway. Only Muhammadans.

How come they can't just repatriate the entire family back to their home country Pakistan? They also would need to send back all the inbred cousins etc so that would amount to around 300,000 people.

Shamima Begum loses appeal against removal of citizenship

Former schoolgirl who went to syria to join islamic state had citizenship revoked a year ago

Shamima begum took her case to the special immigration appeals commission.

Shamima begum, the woman who left britain as a schoolgirl to join islamic state in syria, has lost her appeal against the home office’s move to revoke her citizenship and prevent her from returning to london.

A judgment by the special immigration appeals commission (siac) found against begum, now 20, on three grounds, including that she had not been improperly deprived of her citizenship.

Begum’s lawyers alleged she has been left stateless and unable to mount a “fair and effective” legal challenge and was at risk of “death, inhuman or degrading treatment”.

If forced to go to bangladesh, her parents’ country of origin, she could be hanged, the court was told at a partially secret hearing last november.

Begum, who was born in the uk, grew up in east london. The court heard there was no evidence she had ever visited bangladesh or applied for citizenship there.

In february 2015, when she was 15, she left her home with two other teenagers, kadiza sultana, then 16, and amira abase, then 15, and travelled to syria to join islamic state.

She was found, nine months pregnant, in a syrian refugee camp in february 2019. The then home secretary, sajid javid, stripped her of her british citizenship later that month.

Begum claims she married the dutch islamic state fighter yago riedijk 10 days after arriving in isis territory, with her schoolfriends also reportedly marrying foreign fighters in the terrorist group.
