    +1

AB is exactly opposite. You can give blood only to another AB person but you can receive blood from anybody O, A or B people (as far as Rh is right).
Despite of that fact ... I go to donate that possible rare AB people would get exactly AB blood (if/then needed ... me included).

Perhaps one practical fact which might also indicate that AB is the last/newest phase in humans blood tree.

My blood pressure is chronically a bit low, so I'd rather not mess around with it. Not quite sure what my blood type is, either, but I don't think it's very uncommon. If anyone in my vicinity would suddenly it, I'd happily share same.

You should know your blood type, it comes in handy in case of an emergency.

    Exactly. Everyone should know that.

I even carry my blood card in my bag. So if I would get into accident and losing my consciousness, the life-saving service people, ambulance people, people in hospitals etc. will get to know it quickly anyway.

Men are actually better donators. As they are bigger so is their volume of blood. Secondly men normally (average) have bit higher hemoglobin values.

I have considered it. I do not want my blood to end up in some third worlder, but in the current climate, there's really no way to prevent it. My blood type is O+ and I'm also registered as an organ donor.

Would be curious to see some statistics on which ethnic groups donates blood, I can't really see blacks, Asians etc. doing much of that. Has anyone seen anything in regards to this?

OK, if anybody says they have to look under their arm for their blood type, we also want proof of their age.

I have donated in the past, but not recently. I'm also O+

From my own experience, do not give blood to the Red Cross.
Go to any hospital, they are glad to take it.

Don't know about Norway, but in Sweden & in Finland....basically only Swedish & Finns donates blood. So yes, you don't know it .... your blood can also be used to refugees but naturally also to your own people. On other hand if you would need blood sometimes ... would you like the idea that it can be African's blood? I would't.

Still if having AB blood...then it is bit different story (as only 6% of humans have it), as long as refugees amounts will be much smaller and as AB blood fits only to another AB blood person .... that is quite unlikely in my case.

Well...in some countries Red Cross has monopol position. It is a one who sells blood further to hospitals etc. 2017 Finland's Red Cross's blood service earned 4,2million euros for selling bloods. But they says that the target is not to make profit. Equipment, run the system, people etc. costs something too. If they would be caught for making money/profit ... that would be very bad for their reputation and probable would cut amount of donaters better than anything.

Have heard some people working in medicine stating that donated blood is also separated on a racial/ethnic basis. Doing some quick search seems to indicate that the ABO-system is not completely accurate and that there about 200 different minor variations that can complicate transfusions and that is mostly considered a problem because of the lower donation rates of certain minority groups (this part I found was about the USA, but can be applied to other Western countries).
