Trump complains aides he hired are trying to push him into war with Iran, says report: 'It's so disgusting'

    Source: Independent

‘The only one that matters is me,’ president says after overruling advisers

Donald Trump has reportedly complainted that his closest advisers “want to push [the US] into a war” with Iran, following his decision to cancel military strikes against the Islamic Republic.

“These people want to push us into a war, and it’s so disgusting,” the US president said about his inner circle of aides, according to The Wall Street Journal.

“We don’t need any more wars.”

Mr Trump is said to have made the remarks about his administration officials to a confidant, in a private conversation on Friday.

The 73-year-old chose to hire hawkish aides such as John Bolton, his national security adviser, who is a longtime advocate of regime change in Iran.

Mike Pompeo, the US secretary of state, also advocates hardline positions against the Middle Eastern country.

But the president abruptly cancelled planned military strikes on three Iranian targets on Thursday.

He claimed he did so after learning that 150 people would be killed in the strikes, which were planned in response to Iran shooting down an unmanned US drone.

Tehran claims the drone was struck above its own waters, while the US argues that it was attacked above international airspace over the Strait of Hormuz.

US military forces launched a cyber attack against Iran’s army computer systems on Thursday in response to the drone’s loss.

Tensions between the US and Iran have steadily been rising over oil tanker attacks in the strait, for which the US believes Iran is responsible.

Mr Trump told White House reporters on Saturday that he disagreed with his team over Iran.

“John Bolton is doing a good job, but he takes generally a tough posture,” he said.

“The only one that matters is me.”

The president also discussed Mr Bolton’s support of the Iraq war and told reporters the conflict had been a big mistake.

Mr Trump also said that unspecified new sanctions would be enforced against Iran on Monday but struck a softer tone when discussing the diplomatic crisis.

“The fact is we’re not going to have Iran have a nuclear weapon,” he said.

“And when they agree to that, they are going to have a wealthy country, they’re going to be so happy and I’m going to be their best friend.”

Stunned Anderson Cooper Cuts CNN Interview After Trump Accuser Calls Rape "Sexy"
    06/25/2019

Less than 48 hours after columnist (and soon to be book author) E. Jean Carroll accused (in a New York Magazine article) Donald Trump of raping her in a dressing room in high-end department store, Bergdorf Goodman, in the 1990's, CNN had gleefully invited the accuser on to discuss the details of this horrific act from her past.

Things did not go according to plan for CNN... and we suspect for Ms. Carroll's book sales.

While President Trump has vehemently denied the rape took place, a sensitive Anderson Cooper welcomed the woman on to his CNN show... then things went 'full awkward'.

Cooper asked Carroll, "you don't feel like a victim?" after she suggested that was the case, and things went downhill fast.

The seemingly unstable Carroll replied, "I was not flung to the floor."

Cooper retorted, "I think most people think of rape as a violent assault..."

To which Carrol replied, stunning the CNN anchor, "I think most people think of rape as being sexy..."

Cooper stuttered, stumbled, and quickly cut the interview straight to a commercial break, but not before Carroll could add "...think of the fantasies.....

Perhaps next time, CNN will vet the mental health of their Trump-bashing guests a little better? Are we still supposed to believe every accuser or did Carroll just crush the credibility of the last two years of #MeToo-ism accusations in one 30-second breakdown?

Well ... that was .... interesting! Note the quote at the start "Pres. Trump on his most recent accuser: "It never happened; She's not my type" .... you mean he doesn't like crazy nutcases? That's discrimination against crazy nutcases! ... I detect a new lawsuit forming ;-)

Regarding post #171, if the President's advisers are pushing him into a war he doesn't want to fight he's got a perfect solution: "You're fired". Trump is trying to avoid a costly- and completely unnecessary- war that will cause untold repercussions throughout the world and if his people aren't on board with trying to make peace happen, maybe he needs new people. But, Pompeo and Bolton are so gung-ho for war against ANYONE that they won't rest until they get American blood on their hands. It's easy to talk tough when you're not the ones who will have to bleed in the wars you create.

It Sure Sounds Like Trump Just Implied John McCain Is Rotting in Hell

And also that he’s happy the late senator is dead.

    Source: VanityFair

When we last checked in on Donald Trump’s one-sided feud with a man who’s been dead for almost a year, he was telling reporters, “I was not a big fan of John McCain in any way, shape, or form,” after the Wall Street Journal reported that the White House had tried to hide the USS John S. McCain from Trump‘s line of vision during a trip to Japan in the hopes of avoiding an international meltdown. That was preceded by months of highly presidential attacks against the late senator concerning everything from his refusal to help Trump repeal the Affordable Care Act to McCain’s academic performance to not getting a “thank-you” for supposedly giving McCain “the kind of funeral he wanted.” Which brings us to today, the day the president suggested to a room full of people that McCain is probably in hell for not stripping millions of people of health care, and also that he’s happy the guy is dead.

“We needed 60 votes” to repeal the ACA, Trump explained during an appearance before the Faith and Freedom Coalition, “and we had 51 votes. And sometimes, you know, we had a little hard time with a couple of them, right? Fortunately, they’re gone now. They’ve gone on to greener pastures—or perhaps far less green pastures. But they’re gone. They’re gone, Bill. I’m very happy they’re gone.”

As the Washington Post notes, it’s possible to argue—and the White House almost certainly will—that Trump was not referring to McCain but senators Bob Corker, Jeff Flake, and Dean Heller, all of whom Trump has railed against for not being sufficiently enthusiastic about axing Obamacare. But as reporter Aaron Blake points out, Heller and Flake were replaced by Democrats, and it’s highly unlikely that Trump prefers that to supposedly insubordinate Republicans. Plus, as Yashar Ali reminds us, “Trump obsesses over the ACA repeal vote [far] more than anything else when talking about rogue GOP Senators. Corker and Flake voted for the repeal. McCain, famously, voted against it.”

Also, the president is pretty much known for this kind of thing:

"Trump also has a habit of using plausible deniability to his advantage. He often walks right up to the edge of saying something extremely offensive without directly saying it, and then allows his supporters to connect the dots. Then, when his critics connect those same dots, he claims victimhood. It’s impossible to say with certainty that Trump’s comment was about McCain, but it’s hardly far-fetched. And it seems quite possible it’s the impression he intended to leave and the controversy he wanted."

So, yes, it is entirely possible that an odious gasbag who lives for drama was referring to someone other than his longtime, deceased enemy when he spoke of “greener pastures or perhaps far less green pastures.” But it’s not super likely.

Except the problem that Trump has the problem. Either he can hire aides that are more line with the kind of international policy he want to implement. Or he can hire aides with the necessary experience. Now indeed it would be highly prudent for him to do the former. Problem is that it is not always possible. And to get someone who on top of that also has the necessary experience to operate at the that level would be difficult to say at the least. My advice for him, hire people like Stephen M. Walt. Whom are outside the American foreign policy establishment and can provided solid analyses for president Trump. Added bonus is that Stephen M. Walt is willing to ruffle some feathers.
