US House Reverses 181-Year-Old-Rule To Appease Newly Elected Moslem

For 181 years, you haven’t been able to wear head coverings on the floor of the House of Representatives. Now, however, after the election of the first hijab-wearing Muslim representative, that’s about to be changed.

According to the New York Post, the election of Minnesota’s Ilhan Omar will put an end to a rule that was originally meant to differentiate Congress from British Parliament.
Parlimentarians had a tradition of wearing hats on the floor of Westminster. Given that we took up coffee as our national beverage (and even threw that dastardly tea over the sides of some ships in Boston Harbor) to let the British know how we felt about their institutions, banning hats only seemed to come naturally.

However, in the age of Ilhan Omar, that’s changing. “There are those kinds of policies that oftentimes get created because people who have blind spots are in positions of influence and positions of power,” Omar said Thursday.

[...] In the end, head coverings were eliminated in 1837, and it’s been that way ever since.

Of course, the case could be made that a religious argument against it could have existed since 1845, when Lewis Charles Levin became the first Jewish man elected to Congress.

Granted, Levin is probably best remembered as a vicious anti-Catholic, anti-foreigner zealot, but the point still holds that for 173 of the 181 years that the head-covering ban has existed, there’s likely been a compelling reason to abandon it for Jewish men who wish to wear the kippah. Yet, we’ve seen no movement on the matter until now.

Should the tradition be amended? It’s interesting that the only representative who plans to take advantage of this new rule is Representative-elect Omar; even Watson Coleman says she’s not going to be taking advantage of it.

    Ilhan Omar

Rep.-elect Ilhan Omar (fools in Minnesota allegedly elected her) wants a 237-year old ban on head gear worn on the House floor over turned so she can wear her hijab. I say go take a hike. Another stinking progressive who has NO idea what the Declaration of Independence or U.S. Constitution say or mean. Nope. She's right out of Karl Marx.

There is no such thing as a 'moderate' Muslim. Their goal is and always has been domination and take over of countries not assimilation. Muslims should have never been allowed into this country, period.

They are the giant Trojan Horse everyone is terrified of calling them out for fear of being smeared with some label. Not me, thank you. Stupid, 'tolerant' Americans can't seem to see what Muslims really are: violent savages. If you do not get on your knees and commit to Allah you ARE an infidel and must die. I feel very sorry for humans trapped in that phony religion. Instead of being free they are little more than slaves.

Is anyone surprised? The US is led by race traitors. All of their loyalty is to an artificial resource control mechanism called "money".

Ilhan Omar is a cautionary tale about US immigration – and so was I

After a TV host called the congresswoman Ilhan Omar a poster child for US immigration troubles, her response – calling him a racist – proved his point. Yet she is only the latest such case. I should know, having been one myself.

    US Representative Ilhan Omar (D-Minnesota).

Tucker Carlson hosts one of the most popular opinion shows on Fox News. On Tuesday, he had a segment calling out Omar (D-Minnesota) for accusing America of bigotry and racism in “virtually every public statement” and displaying “undisguised contempt for the US and its people.”
“Ilhan Omar is living proof that the way we practice immigration is dangerous to this country,” Carlson argued. “Some of the very people we try hardest to help have come to hate us passionately.”
Omar did not deny, or even contest, any of Carlson’s claims or characterizations. Instead, she called him a “white nationalist” and threatened those who advertise on his show.

Watching this sordid spectacle unfold has left me shaking my head, because once upon a time I was just like Omar: rescued by America from the ruins of a country that US intervention helped destroy, brought into the utterly alien culture and landscape of the American Midwest, and given a lot of support but little guidance. One difference was that Omar came with her family and with the intent to settle, while I left mine behind and hoped to one day go back.

During those college years two decades ago, I too was aggrieved with almost everything about America. I even had more reasons for that than simple culture shock, as the US mainstream media (there wasn’t another kind at the time) reporting on the 1999 Kosovo War transformed me overnight into a cartoon villain in the eyes of Americans I had considered friends. All told, I would have made a terrible American back then.

Yet here we are, two decades later, and I am defending America’s right to be America while working at a “Russian” news outlet, while Omar is denigrating the country that made her a member of Congress.

What happened? Simply put, I got to understand America along the way: where it came from and how it got to where it is today. I did not swear that oath of citizenship out of convenience, but by choice. Though I often criticize this country’s politics and policies, I do so from the perspective that they deviate from its core principles and values, and are harmful to the interests of its people – all of them. I also did not seek political office to impose my values on others.

Omar, on the other hand, has chosen to follow in the footsteps of other prominent immigrants rescued from war, such as Zbigniew Brzezinski or Madeleine Albright (born in Czechoslovakia as Jana Korbelova), who saw the US not as a limited constitutional republic created for the benefit of its people and their posterity, but as a vehicle for their personal ethnic grievances and revenge fantasies. Brzezinski, for example, was so obsessed with destroying the Soviet Union – because of his native Poland – that he got the US to support jihad in Afghanistan, from where it later spread to the world.

When confronted about this in an interview, Brzezinski scoffed. “What is more important in world history? The Taliban or the collapse of the Soviet empire? Some agitated Moslems or the liberation of Central Europe and the end of the Cold War?”

He never did take those words back, even after 9/11.

Albright, a student of his, also became a champion of US imperialism, casting every conflict anywhere in the world as a rerun of the 1938 partition of Czechoslovakia at Munich. One of the countries she eagerly destroyed in the 1990s was Yugoslavia, despite it having sheltered her family in the 1940s, first from the Nazis, then from the Soviets. She has treated her adoptive homeland with the same kind of “gratitude,” too. In 2016, Albright threatened American women who did not vote for Hillary Clinton with a “special place in Hell,” and later published a book accusing President Donald Trump’s administration of “fascism.”

Whether you agree that the US is a “nation of immigrants” or not, the fact is that this country has offered a deal to Albright, Brzezinski, Omar and myself: it is open to people like us, with the expectation we would help it prosper as we engage in our own “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” That expectation is part of the bargain, though. Being welcome here is not – should not be – a one-way street.
“No country can import large amounts of people who hate it, and expect to survive,” argues Tucker Carlson. From my experience, both in this country and before, I can’t say that he’s wrong.

In what way is the islamic violent liar Omar trying to improve America? She got into America by lying and marrying her brother. She has said the most hateful things and supports a islamic take over of America. She is a racist and a hybrid of the worst parts of islam and liberalism. Anyone who supports her is delusional or evil.

Ilhan Omar is a cautionary tale about US immigration – and so was I 11 Jul 2019.

The Congressional rule was enacted to eliminate the wearing of hats while in session as they would be distracting and block members from seeing the speaker(s) and such.

Neither a hijab nor a kippah can be considered a 'hat' for these purposes. That the language of the rule states 'headwear' is problematical for some, obviously, but this- just like so many of our other rules and regulations- is wide open to varying interpretation (14th Amendment, anyone?).

Just like the "freedom of religion" part the people who wrote it weren't ever thinking of Islam and its customs. The possibility that Islam could have ever steeped into American soil in an influential way would never have seemed possible to them.
I grew up on a belief of honour, courage and the old world values. The world isn't about that anymore, preferring to die a slow death of fast food and cheap thrills.

I agree, Meister- but I have to wonder what the Founding Fathers would do if they could see what we were to do with their pride and joy of a new nation? I daresay many of them would likely go back and drop the whole project.

    Sane and competent?

    The Congressional Oath of Office:

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.

Isn't upholding the Constitution of the United States part of the oath Ilhan Omar has taken? If your not doing your job what happens to you?

islam and it’s facilitator cultural marxism are serious mental disorders.
What does it say about us if we are putting or allowing mentally deficient people in positions of power?

This is the enemy in our midst, in sufficient numbers to reach Congress. Making them public representatives, even like national leader in the Rep. of Ireland, must be terrific encouragement for so many more to come to the West.

Our governments ignore far left extremism, jihadism, terrorism, and organized crime among the migrant community and stamp down on the indigenous populations for imaginary political correctness infringements. Migrant crime is largely unreported, not recognised, excused and unaddressed.

Our ‘globalist’ puppet governments don’t do anything about the situation because their job is to facilitate the ‘globalist’ intentionally created mass 3rd world migration to the West.

When they were managed by whites, Rhodesia and South Africa were the only thriving countries on the African continent. Look at them today, shitholes unable to feed themselves. Mass migration will totally collapse the West. Asia: China, Korea and Japan refuse muslims and blacks. Muslims and blacks have nothing to offer or contribute but collapse.

As we have seen so many times, not doing your job in Congress brings little in the way of punishment or even rebuke from your peers.

If you're not doing your job (barring outright criminal activity), the very worst you can expect is to not get re-elected. But with a lifetime pension already secured, where's the real downside?

It is an interesting topic for a sci fi novel I guess. I think they would write things better and be a lot more discriminating as to what kind of freedoms they would really allow. Dare I say it that slavery may be off the cards as well given the mess that created down the track.
