While true the dems may have won the house, they did poorly in the overall election. If they push too hard on Trump it will go very badly for them in 2020, the ball is in Trump's court as he won over more republicans to his side and gained more party unity. This election will also not effect who Trump appoints to the Supreme Court.

The sad thing is we may have to put up with Pelosi and her drunken rates.
Life is like a fire hydrant- sometimes you help people put out their fires, but most of the time you just get peed on by every dog in the neighborhood.

Someway I feel it very strange to talk about Civil War mentality if only 40% of all allowed people went and used their rights to vote? Yes, last time the same was 30% ... so now +10% more, but that is still very low.

Or do I miss something now?

The GOP picked up four seats in the Senate - Indiana, Florida, Missouri & North Dakota. The media outlets have not called Florida yet but with 100% reporting the Republican, Gov. Rick Scott, Rep, is ahead of the Democratic, Senator Bill Nelson by 34,537 votes. Over 8.1 million votes were cast in Florida with the margin of victory below 1/2 of a percentage point so there is an automatic recount but Scott should hold on to the lead. The GOP lost Nevada & Arizona is still too close to call with several mail in votes still uncounted. Montana is still too close to call, severalmail in votes have not been counted there yet either. Montana was Democratic.

The GOP had 51 seats in the Senate. Minus Nevada (lost), Mississippi (a runoff because no one got 50% + one of the vote) & Arizona (too close to call) gives them 48 but add the four gains above & they have at least 52 for a gain of one. The Democrats have 45 counting two independents who caucus with the Dems. If the GOP holds onto Arizona & pick up Montana they would go to 55. Mississippi will stay GOP. Two Republicans were running in a special election against a Negro Democrat. The White vote was split so no one got 50% + one but in the runoff with just two the GOP will prevail. There is also a chance that Senator Manchin of West Virginia may switch to the GOP. Manchin won with 49.5% of the vote (a Libertarian candidate pull votes away from the Republican), he has no place in the contemporary Democratic Party. Voting for Kavanaugh is what got Manchin reelected. If Manchin does switch that will bring the GOP to a least 53 & possibly 56 in the Senate. In any case the GOP picked up in the Senate, a good sign for the party holding the White House in a midterm election.

The fact that the GOP won both the governor's race & the senate race in Florida was also a major victory. For a midterm Trump did very well when compared to Clinton in 1994, Obama in 2010 & Bush in 2006.

"The moral code of our society is so demanding that no one can think, feel and act in a completely moral way. For example, we are not supposed to hate anyone, yet almost everyone hates somebody at some time or other, whether he admits it to himself or not. Some people are so highly socialized that the attempt to think, feel and act morally imposes a severe burden on them. In order to avoid feelings of guilt, they continually have to deceive themselves about their own motives and find moral explanations for feelings and actions that in reality have a non-moral origin. We use the term “oversocialized” to describe such people." — Ted Kaczynski

The Democrat won the Senate race in Montana. In Arizona they are still counting, and finding, ballots. In Florida the counties of Miami-Dade & Broward are finding and counting additional ballots. I guess they will keep fining ballots until they put Gillum & Nelson over the top.

In the US it is normally the duty of the Secretary of State, of the respective states, to certify elections. But it is local elected officials - the county clerks - who actually supervise the elections - draw up the ballots, register voters, count the votes, set up the voting precincts. The elected official in most urban counties are Democrats. So the Democrats are trying to steal some elections by discovering uncounted ballots.
