    Saxons, Angles, and Jutes

I've been looking for information about the said groups of germanic peoples. Yes, I've found basic on-the-surface information but it seems no matter how hard I try to delve I can never find any indepth cultural stuff. At the very least I'd like the concept of 'fyrd' explained to me and the differences and traits of the three tribes.

    Thanks in advance!

Coinsedently, my US History teacher gave a bit of an explanation about the Fyrd.

Apparently of a given area, the Sheriff (as we know it today... back in colonial times it was apparently pronounced more like Shire-reef) would give out some kind of call, and thus every able-bodied young man within earshot would present himself ready with a weapon of sorts. Naturally, you had to be some sort of free lander owner ("yeomen") and, for the time, hopefully a musket weapon. With the fyrd called up the Sheriff could then do one of two things: Go after a criminal (best way I can word it with my understanding), or for Army-like purposes. My teacher was very clear that it was not to be confused with some sort of vigilante posse group, because it is an authority controlled thing which the ability to do so was granted by an authority. It has evolved into today what we know as the National Gaurd - something that's not exactly front line, but it's better than nothing for when something does happen.

I imagine that back in early part of the Middle ages that it may have been more like a levy used more-often-than-not for war-like purposes.

Other than that I just know where the Saxons, Angles, and Jutes started off in relation to eachother.
