    "Unusual" Items on Your Playlists?

    Hi All!

I've been meaning to write this post a long time. Now I'm finally getting around to it, and I don't know why...

I assume most people have mostly contemporary and popular music on their playlists. So do I, but there are a few items that I assume rarely feature in other people's playlists.

    The "unusual" items are:
    • Die Horst Wessel Lied
    • Und wenn wir marschieren
    • Preussens Gloria
    • Erika (march)
    • Alte Kameraden (march, instrumental)
    • Preussenlied
    • Soviet national anthem (Red Army chorus)

Those are just from my current everyday playlist. I have more military music than listed above, and I also have classical music, as well as atypical pop music.

I hope you share your own "unusual" favourites. Maybe I can add some of them to my own collection.

    Cheers,
    Albert.

True music lovers have albums, not digital playlists

My collection is almost entirely hard rock/metal but I do have some baroque/classical, celtic harp, ambient, Beatles, Clannad, Enya and comedy songs. The only pop single I've got is Survivor by Destiny's Child.

Oh, my dad has lots of vinyls too ... and he even still owns turntable ... which is much older than me. LOL.
    Similar as this one.

Our CD music collection is currently small but expanding, with genres ranging from romantic country to trance.
Aside from an ever increasing number of mortals who have willfully chosen to worship Satan and his minions, our battle has always been against the powers and principalities operating surreptitiously throughout this twisted world.

Well, CD albums count too. But a digital download feels like a 'ghost' object to me.

I love music, but perhaps I'm too pragmatic (or lazy or frugal) to be a "true" music lover. I do have a few cassettes and CDs. My little brother broke our vinyl player while I was at a very early age, so I'm not familiar with that medium. My parents had some vinyls but (for the aforementioned reason) I couldn't play them

A problem I have with albums, is that there are usually one or two good songs on them, with the rest being at best mediocre. As for the "Best of [... artist's name ...]" albums, I've found that they often don't include the songs that *I* myself like best; for example, I loaned one by Chris de Burgh from the library, and found it was missing "Carry Me (Like a Fire in Your Heart)" and "Lady in Red".

As for quality issues, I can scarcely hear the difference between a 64 and a 320 kbps mp3 file. Or between CD and mp3.

Comedy you say... are you familiar with "Star Trekkin'" by The Firm, or "Holiday Rap" by Mc Miker G & DJ Sven? Or "'Cuz I Got High" by Afro Man? I probably have more, but that's what comes to mind.

    Cheers,
    Albert.

I found it. I'm going to look into it.

It's not necessarily marches, "Brass" refers to the material of the instruments, in German it's Blasmusik, meaning instruments that are "blown", from trumpet to oboe and everything inbetween (in contrast to string instruments f.e. or pianos). They often play common Volksmusik.

Unusual items on my commonly Black-Metal-only playlist occasionally is then mostly Neofolk/ Industrial / Martial / (old) EBM (before it went tekkno) or the very very very unusual item of 16 Horsepower

Even liked the follow-up project Woven Hands on their first two albums still, but then he (Eugene Edwards) lost it...

It looks like you have a general taste in music rather than being into one or two genres; so, yes, album collecting might not suit you.

I think i've heard Star Trekkin'. I'll look for those other two. I like the Monty Python songs and there are some by Not the Nine O'Clock News which featured a young Rowan Atkinson (Mr Bean). A couple:
