Death comes to us all eventually. What matters is how we face it-with courage. All this clinging to life is unmanly.

I agree we should face death with courage! But we should live with courage too! Courage is very important, both in life and death... We should try our best in life as well, and not just waiting to die...

The key word is "self reliance".
I lost some of it by moving away from it.
My electricity was solar, I rarely paid any bill for 20 years.
I had my own water well.
I made my own bio diesel.
I lived on 10 acres 50 miles from Los Angeles.
I had a big garden and a greenhouse.
I heated my house with a wood stove.
I'm now 82 and can no longer catch up with what I had.
To be reliant, one must move away from the city and live in a small town or acreage.
During WW2, most small villages escaped destruction.

So well said... Very good example!
Small villages are a good option and I'm considering it. I don't like big cities anyway, and even Scandinavian cities seem too big for me, ideally I'd live somewhere further from the main cities, with all the self reliance you just described. That sounds very much like the ideal lifestyle for me!

Avery human being has some kind of "voids" in their heart and Spirit. Humans turn to all kinds of beliefs and I don't condemn any one of them, whatever makes them happy.

I believe in the Creator or some call it "Intelligent design", he is everywhere to be seen
in Nature, he has given us everything to make us happy.
I turned to Christianity but I'm not connected to any church label, most of them preach another gospel and don't stay true to the Scriptures.
Most members on this site believe in all kinds of "Heathenry".
I chose to believe in a living God, it fulfills me and keeps me going no matter what.
Every day I thank God for giving me another day.

If you live in the city, get out

Following an EMP attack, you do not want to be anywhere near urban areas. Urban areas are ultra-reliant on the electrical grid. Without functioning power, civil unrest such as looting and violent attacks are likely to erupt with immediacy. Those without means will see the downed power grid as opportunity. As days go on, people will get hungry and thirsty. Cities such as New York City may become impossible to leave after a given period of time. While NYC has tough gun laws, I doubt that the criminals and thugs have been compliant (just a guess, friends). You should get out of the city even if that means by walking.


Places such as grocery stores and pharmacies will be ground zero for violence so stay away. Police and fire department responders will be incapacitated and you won’t be able to rely on them. Hence, have your self-defense situation worked out.

Living along the Gulf Coast gives a chance to understand nature at its worse. You'd be surprised with people who don't prepare and rely on the local and Federal governments to feed them, being mostly nonwhite. They will line up for hours for free food and services so they can bill us for their needs; although, they can have wads of 20's-100's in their pockets. Many foreigners act as if they can't survive any real disaster unless we provide some welfare. Those people who do prepare end up having grills and other items stolen off their lands, including their own home-grown vegetables. In addition, it's difficult to buy an annual supply of groceries while feeding your family with recent inflation. As I stock sale items or clearanced foods, we go through it so fast with a larger family. Preppers can be prepared when you are alone or with a partner, but it takes too many resources for a family to rent storage area (if no basement), buy extra food and clothing, extra medical supplies, and lots of bottled water. I've done this during hurricane threats, lots of work and monies. Preppers use up valuable time to prepare for the worst scenarios possible, which have not come for the last 80 years.
