There are many who feel rather concerned about how they are not able to prepare, as they do not have much money to spare, if any. My advice is, think on what people will need when the shtf. Toiletries such as toilet paper, toothpaste, combs/brushes, anything for hygiene both male and female. Then there is wound care. Last but not least, lol, booze, tobacco, copenhagen/skoal, any vice wanted will barter well for several items they have. Don't judge when someone is needing a booze, there are many uses for example as emergency sterilization of a wound, not always someone being an alcoholic or seeking out booze for one. Either way, it isn't your business why, your business is what do you have to offer in exchange?

Always remember Beans and Bullets is my name of the game. Well, you can add rice and some easy to store chicken and beef broth cubes to flavour the rice and water. I have had massive emergency food stores and used them in long term storms, power outages or when I was dirt poor..I never went hungry. Those are shtf situations too, real life which can occur every day. Anyhow, my point is, weapons, ammo and wound care, as advanced as you can get come first. Then slowly pick up some of the items mentioned here and there and before you know it, you have what people are forgetting about. No one wants to wipe themselves with anything but TP when given the choice!

Life is like a fire hydrant- sometimes you help people put out their fires, but most of the time you just get peed on by every dog in the neighborhood.

There is much to read in that thread. Perhaps this should be merged into that one. I'll be reading it all and might even have to take notes for any responses I share! Thank you!

In the event of a real apocalypse there is nowhere to run to, certainly not here in England. One would not survive. Even if you could find access to clean running water and could survive the elements there would eventually be nothing to eat. There are no wild animals to hunt even if you had the skills. When it's over, it's over. People obsess about this issue and all it does is demonstrate a fear of death-something which fortunately comes to us all.
In the event of nuclear war the whole country would be contaminated. All that would await you is a slow agonising death. Better to be in the centre of the blast and go in the fraction of a second.

We did all that during WW2 in the old Country. We survived..........

You wouldn't survive a nuclear holocaust. If by chance you did you would wish you hadn't. No, in England this is called survivalism and I have gradually come to the conclusion that in the case of a literal 'apocalypse' it is a waste of time. Death comes to us all eventually. What matters is how we face it-with courage. All this clinging to life is unmanly.

That's a very good point! However, I know many people who aimed for that, but the problem was that they were not united enough as a team... I have no idea what they are doing now, and how it goes. But one needs some personal resources too to join something like that...
When I had a partner, he didn't have a stable job or stable financial resources, and also he was not someone I felt I could rely on, so it was difficult to do something like that together...

That's another good option! And that one is a good thread too. Personally I'd prefer to be self-reliant... About relying on other people, I don't know, it's better to be able to make it on your own, no matter in which circumstances, it's very helpful and useful in everyday life too, not to depend on anyone else...

We should not fear death, first of all! It can happen anytime and we should be prepared to die in every moment of our lives. Some people don't even live, they just waste their lives in vain, that's the problem, they are never prepared to die, they hope they still have time...
We can never know... As in your last paragraph, better to be a quick (and peaceful) death than a slow and painful one... Or who knows...

Personally I don't care about it that much. As I am struggling with everyday life now, far for me the thought of being prepared for something more... I'd rather be prepared to die in every moment...

Other than that, being self-reliant sounds like the best option...

A nuclear holocaust would be disastrous for the Earth and atmosphere because of fallout radiation. Look at the Chernobyl exclusion zone. Animals that live there now appear to do well although they're not as healthy as other animals that don't live there. Humans living near the Pripyat centre are less healthy and don't have a very good metabolism. The charity project around Europe that helps kids from the Chernobyl area will explain that humans suffer prolong effects from radiation and that the kids get a little better once they visit other countries.
(It doesn't matter how old the song is, I won't stop liking it).

"Other than that, being self-reliant sounds like the best option..."

The key word is "self reliance".
I lost some of it by moving away from it.
My electricity was solar, I rarely paid any bill for 20 years.
I had my own water well.
I made my own bio diesel.
I lived on 10 acres 50 miles from Los Angeles.
I had a big garden and a greenhouse.
I heated my house with a wood stove.
I'm now 82 and can no longer catch up with what I had.
To be reliant, one must move away from the city and live in a small town or acreage.
During WW2, most small villages escaped destruction.
