Eastern Europeans Also Seek EU Asylum

    https://euobserver.com/migration/142732

among those who applied for asylum in EU countries last year there were almost 100,000 European citizens: Albanians, Turks, Russians, Georgians, Ukrainians, Armenians, and others. [...] Albanians represented a significant proportion of Europeans seeking asylum in Europe: in 2017, 22,000 Albanians sought asylum - by far the highest number compared to all other nationalities, whether in absolute terms, or in proportion to the population (almost 1 percent of Albanian citizens sought asylum in the EU last year).

year-on-year Albanian asylum seekers are accepted more and more often: within the EU as a whole, successful Albanian asylum applications went from 500 to 1,600 in five years. The reasons for this are primarily linked to dangers such as blood feuds, domestic violence, and discrimination against LGBT people and the Roma community.
So we get their gays and Gypsies, on top of everything else...

In the article it mentions European citizens seeking asylum; how do European citizens seek asylum in the EU. It makes no sense to me.

Because they're coming from countries on the European continent which aren't member states of the EU.

Last year, Norway granted asylum to four officers and one attaché of the Turkish military, after they applied during a visit to Norway at the same time of the supposed military coup attempt in Turkey. The reasons given by the applicants was that they feared being framed by the Turkish judicial system as being accomplices of the attempted coup.

Neither Norway nor Turkey are part of the EU, but both are NATO members. So if either country is attacked, the other is obliged to come to their rescue. Yet, in peace time, we are sheltering their military personell from their own government... Makes no sense.

I read that Albanians are the foreign group that applies for Italian citizenship the most, followed by Moroccans and Romanians. Apparently, out of all of the countries which are part of the European Union, Italy is the one that grants citizenship the most and "more easily". Italy is seen as a door for them to obtain citizenship and move to other European countries.

Eurostat, 35 Thousand Albanians Obtain Italian Citizenship in One Year

According to the Eurostat report, during 2015, 83 thousand Albanians have been granted citizenship of one of the EU countries. Of these, 35 thousand have obtained Italian citizenship and 48 thousand citizenship of another EU country.

From 2006 to 2015, about 100,000 Albanians have been granted Italian citizenship.

These data rank Italy as the first country in the EU for the number of passports issued to foreign citizens. From 2006 to 2015 about 790,000 foreign citizens have been provided with an Italian passport.
