    What Are You Carrying Today?

Summertime has me limited to three or four selections and that too depends upon the weather. I won't carry a blued firearm if it's raining or extremely high humidity no matter how well I've oiled it.

Usually, the HK USP9 Compact, Walther P99, PPK, or PPS, and sometimes, if I really want the punishment of three pounds of stainless steel on my bum, the S&W 4006. These five get most summer carry duty.

Cooler drier weather has me also carrying the SIG-Sauer P225/P6 and the Walther P5.

Today like the rest of the week it has been the HK USP9 Compact.

I have been bouncing between my .380 and my .38 revolver. Both are easy to carry and it depends on my mood. I do have my Bond Arms 410/45LR, but that baby is by the bed stand at this very moment. My .40 is in it's bag as are my others. Sometimes I cannot make up my mind and 2-4 will wind up in my rig. Not an odd thing where I live.

I do need to pick a day to clean, as the first two have been taking some abuse. No dropping, just a lot of travel with little attention. Nice thing is, all my weapons do not seem to mind actually being used, moved and traveled. They fire every time without fail. But respect is something I have for my weapons, so even though they earn their keep, I 'give back' with a spiffing up.

I wish I had the opportunity to keep a gun at home, but it is a long and very time-consuming process to be allowed to do so. One would have to join a pistol club and practice competitive shooting for well over a year, I believe, and work one's way up the different calibers, before one could apply to the police to keep one's guns at home in a safe. And even then, I think you could get pretty harsh punishment if you ever use it in self-defense, as it is supposed to simply be a competition equipment.

Have you Americans ever had to use your guns in a self-defense situation before?

I will answer your question..yes I have used my weapon in self defense and nothing came of it. Maybe sometime I will tell my story. I don't know many men or women who do not have a weapon in their vehicles and home.
The situation is this, your weapon is no good for defending yourself if you cannot get to it. Being forced to use it for match /competition only and having to keep it in a safe AND being forced to go through all the details to get different calibers is sad to me. I wish you had every right to go buy what you want, take it where you want and use it whenever you want. You should have every right to do so, but alas, reality dictates.

I rarely buy meat in grocery because I and my friends hunt to feed ourselves. That is another advantage to having my guns and bow.

I have not. I've only ever drawn my handgun once and then I was on duty.

As a private citizen carrying a weapon you stay out of situations, areas, etc, where the use of your firearm might occur.

    Clothing .

Not much , because of the current drought and warmth .

I have shifted to synthetic modern bicycle pants .

They are nice , though I had been an enemy to synthetics for a very long time .
Synthetics catch fire , while cotton is hard to inflame.

I can use them as swimming pants , too .

I agree Herr Rentz, but I was in my own home and came out of the bath to find a glassy eyed drugged up male in the kitchen of the cabin I was residing in at the time. I had forgotten to lock the door, which does not give intruder excuse, as he also had to jump the fence or locked livestock gate to get into the yard, let alone my abode.

Living in the country, no one would have heard screams if I had allowed myself to be a victim by not knowing how to arm/defend myself. I certainly do not go looking for trouble. But if trouble comes to find me and the last possibility of survival or escape from a beating/rape or kidnapping is to brandish my weapon, I shall, by law, defend myself to the bitter end.
