    I am on Facebook ,
    but have not much going on there ;
I read some Danish newspapers there , since
there are news.google .se and .no , but by whatever reason no .dk .

I created an account @ Twitter once , but had no idea who to follow .

Not doing much photography , so no Instagram necessary for me .

    Snapchat only heard of .

I don't use Skype and Instant Messaging .

Social networks where one has to watch out what to type
    are uninteresting to me .
Mk 10:18 What do you call me a good master, no-one is good .

What do you think of Instagram/Snapchat/Twitter/Facebook?

I think it is a way for people to willingly give away their personal information to whomever wants it. Including the Government.

Some times it feels like a complete waste of time, sifting through the posts of people one hardly knows, and their personal everyday-business. But it can be a good platform, by following different groups of all sorts of subjects, and a good means of receiving and distributing information, like news articles and stories. The fact that such a huge proportion of the population is on Facebook, kind of makes it the modern-day town centre, where ideas and concerns are made public and debated. Even in many countries, a public post on Facebook is perceived equal to a vocal or written statement made in public, in a court of law. To completely refrain from joining in, is a way to exclude oneself from the public sphere. I understand if some people want that, though.

Also, keeping track on social gatherings and events (not to mention upcoming birthdays), would be a lot more difficult for me without Facebook, as most people create 'events' for pretty much anything nowadays.

As for Mark Zuckerberg gathering my information, I couldn't care less. I have no false illusions of being "safe" on the internet, just as I know I am not "safe" crossing the street. Our information is gathered all the time. At least on Facebook, I know I am only one out of more than two billion people.

A mixed blessing, but more destructive to society than beneficial.

You could write them down in a diary or note book. That method worked for a few hundred years before the internet

I've looked at Facebook a few times. I could almost literally feel my IQ drop by the second. I've never looked at the other sites, or maintained an account at any of them (including Facebook), and I never will. When these social media sites first appeared about 15 years ago, they were the domain of teenage girls - particularly the types prone to drama and gossip. It's embarrassing now to see grown men using them.

Sure, I could, but then I would first have to ask people when their birthday is (which is a bit awkward if they are family or long-time friends, and even kind of weird to ask newly acquired acquaintances of, as well). And even then, I must not ever lose the note book, and keep checking it to stay updated on soon-to-come birthdays. I'm afraid I am too much of a stereotypical guy to bother with such hassle.

Everything is what you make out of it. You can for example "unfollow" all your 'friends' that you have no interest in, which will make them not show up in your feed.

Personally, I am a member of several different handwork and crafting groups, and learn quite a lot from just reading the posts and material being shared there. The environment that is created when a lot of people interested in the same subject are gathered in one place, is hard to come by, save for an actual real-life convention. And even then, it would be much less practical and accessible than a simple Facebook group.

Facebook banned me for Alt-Right posts, political cartoons and jokes. I'm not wasting any more time and energy there.

Lilly and I both maintain FB accounts for personal use.

As politically incorrect as my public posts are, I'm surprised it hasn't been raided by the thought police by now.

Most of these are cracking down on Free Speech and fairly one-sidedly have things flagged as "hate speech" and/or "fake-news". Facebook is particularly intransparent in their disciplinary approach. You can be buiding up a site for years, never have a post reported and suddenly see it unpublished without a reason given. At least YouTube uses the three-strike policy.

At the same time, if you're trying to reach out to people you're going to have to be present where they're present and thus private use of these platforms is paramount, no matter how daunting and pointless some of them seem to be. Twitter is a prime example for this: Getting your point across in 280 characters isn't easy at all (was worse when still at 140), and there's a huge leftist bubble that is aided by this (for lack of them having an elaborate argument), but the information threshold is very low as you can basically interact with most anyone, this can be useful.

I currently maintain accounts on Faceook, Twitter, VK.com and Jodel, albeit the latter not for political reasons but mostly for trolling random threads. I have an Instagram account which I use to read-only without adding much content of myself. They all have their upsides and downsides, but the problem where people's attention span dwindles is aided by the quick expiry date even of viral posts. Forums are useful in that you're able to keep coming back - given them both an edge (conservation of knowledge on topics that need much continuity) and a downside (difficult to pick apart recent and old discussions).

I don't use Snapchat, I think at 29 I'm too old to understand that, and that's for people with an attention span of a turnip IMHO.
-In kalte Schatten versunken...

(Heimdalls Wacht, In kalte Schatten versunken, stanzas 4-6)
