First results around 12 tonight UK time, Sunderland counts very fast. This could be indicative ofcourse - Leave probably needs to win in Sunderland to win nationally.

I believe most results will be announced in the early hours of the morning. I think Horned is right we'll know by about 5AM unless it's extremely close.

edit: Map of predicted best Leave and Remain areas, and in yellow, swing areas

it's now 2 am - looking good for LEAVE but there is still mileage to go. However, the results are showing ordinary working people are fed up and rebelling in a way that was not seen .... feeling more positive but we shall see ...

It's looking very promising now for leave. It's 52% for leave now with about half the votes counted.

The pound is after falling 8%. Zoinks! I've never seen that before.

So the markets certainly think there'll be a Brexit.

Anyway I think the UK will be a lot happier with a weak currency and strong culture than the other way around.

Devaluing the currency makes a country more competitive with their exports. Sell more Jaguars and such.
Most people think as they are trained to think, and most people make a majority.

    Farage victory speach.
Nigel Farage has just given something pretty close to a victory speech.

There are pros and cons. It will for instance make food slightly more expensive in the UK as most of their food is imported.

The main thing is that the UK can begin to re-take control of its borders, and can be safe in the knowledge that no matter how many invaders Angela Merkel let flood into Europe the UK doesn't have to let them in.

BBC and ITV have both called it in favour of Leave.

This would have to be the most historic moment UK politics since the "Good Friday Agreement" in 1998 officially ended the troubles in Northern Ireland.

Oh, you had to get in the dig didn't you?

Anyway, the leave count has now officially passed 50% of total votes cast, so it's lead is now unassailable. A Brexit result is a certainty.

    Congratulations to the UK.

    Top 10 leave

    Boston – 75.6%
    South Holland – 73.6%
    Castle Point – 72.7%
    Thurrock – 72.3%
    Great Yarmouth – 71.5%
    Fenland – 71.4%
    Mansfield – 70.9%
    Bolsover – 70.8%
    North East Lincolnshire – 69.9%
    Ashfield – 69.8%

    Top 10 remain

    Gibraltar – 95.9%
    Lambeth – 78.6%
    Hackney – 78.5%
    Haringey – 75.6%
    City of London – 75.3%
    Islington – 75.2%
    Wandsworth – 75.0%
    Camden – 74.9%
    Edinburgh – 74.4%

    Source.
With the exception of Gibraltar, most of the remain areas were either fairly "well to do" or else very multi-cultural. So no surprise there.
