    Vacation Money Holiday Extra Urlaubs Geld

    In Germany it had been commonplace, that employees got some extra
    money on the wage during holidays: 25-30% in the construction sectors were
    general in the 1980s and first half of the 1990s.

    Then things went down south, even though the massive influx of
    skilled Asylum workforce from everywhere.

    Now in year 2018 the printed issue of the Hamburg Evening Leaf 'Hamburger Abendblatt'
    has an article about vacation tariffs in Germany on page 9 in the Economics section.

    The headline says : Every second employee gets holiday pay,
    which should be "Every second employee does not deserve holiday payment" ...


    Facts in the report :

    1.) 71% of employees in companies bound themselves to tariffs "Tarifvertrag" gain vacation money,
    meaning that 1/3 do not and many companies left the tariffs unions.

    2.) 38% of employees in companies not bound to tariffs gain vacation money.

    3.) 64% of Industries pay holiday extra,
    in Merchandise, Energy Supply and many Service Providers it is less than 30%.

    4.) Eastern Germans receive half of the vacation bonuses than the Western Germans.

    5.) Highest pays Wood- and Plastic-Processing INDUSTRY : West 2355€, East 1435€.

    6.) Lowest pays Agriculture : West 255€, East 155€.

    7.) Of Companies with more than 500 employees pay 65% extra holiday money,
    of Companies with less than 100 employees pay 38% some bonus.

    8.) While 54% of men get vacation money, it is just 41% of women who receive such.

    Isn't it that Germans, via their taxes, have to subsidize the very companies they are competing with?

    That means marginal industries will shut down, while high margin industries will gain (cheaper) labor and other resources from the liquidated companies.

    In the US there is the practice of the Christmas Bonus, but not anything like Holiday Pay. Or, at least there didn't used to be.

    It was a wide spread practice in Mexico and some companies that employ a mostly immigrant Mexican workforce (think Agriculture) have started doing because the workers expect it.
