In London, whenever an area is being promoted as the latest "in" place to live, the promoters stress, as if they were the only things that mattered, the presence of every conceivable type of bar, restaurant, club and a "buzzing" night life.

And it's always such a boon if they're every colour of the rainbow, so to speak!

This is a bit late, but since people are still talking about it:

People that condemn the phrase "happy holidays" and talk about "keeping the CHRIST in CHRISTmas." It's as if they're unaware that many religions have holidays around the winter solstice, and that the date of the Christmas celebration was a result of the pagan celebration of Yule.

It pisses me off when Christians think their religion is the only one that matters.

Yes indeed! In fact the greater the diversity (what a fabulous word that is - it makes anybody who uses it sound almost intelligent), the more desirable an area is. Well at least it is to those of the ultra-liberal persuasion.

    So many Chinese everywhere.

Normally I dont' have a problem with Asians, but the fact that there are so many Chinatowns all over the world is kind of creepy.

I don't know why exactly it bothers me but they're like little colonies all over.

Especially after I heard about Chinatowns in France...that was extremely strange.
    Proud to be Germanic.

Even though my ancestry is English, Germany is my favorite country.

I would think it was weird too, since Chinese people seem to do a good job assimilating into their new countries of residence (while still retaining many Chinese cultural values)....except I love the high quality Chinese food one can get in Chinatowns. The noodles are delicious.

Having a bunch of homework over winter break pisses me off.

    We heard a comedian quip:

"I'd like to go to China and build Everywhere-else-towns all over the place..." The audience laughed knowingly - though sadly, that will probably be the entire end result to their recognition of what said comedian brought to their realization.

Crusty old bores who think it imperative to reproduce their boring selves to prop up their boring societies and go about stifling the emerging personalities of their children/pupils.

That talent and originality will wither over time in most children because of the crappy environments they've had to grow up in (crappy not necessarily meaning 'underprivileged').

When people use the books I've got lying around as coasters!

Know-it-alls. 'Know-it-all' is a personality type rather than a indication of some quantity of knowledge. As such, it marks the know-it-all as distinct from the humbler of bearing but intellectually meatier know-a-lot. The latter is by nature quite likeable and apt to enhance an experience with some well-timed and -- crucially -- succinct trivia pertaining to it; the former, however, as a rule doesn't call it a day until he has managed to suck all the life out of at least one formerly enjoyable conversation -- usually between people who aren't him, and who didn't even want him to join in the first place. Actually knowing a lot isn't a prerequisite for know-it-all-ism. The sufferer merely needs to have a very keen ear for something that might somehow relate to something he's read somewhere (the body of knowledge is usually fairly limited, but know-it-all has a magnificent talent for stretching it out to cover any topic that might spring up), and a very stunted nuance and irony receptor so as to increase opportunities to showcase his affliction without any pesky 'understanding of context' getting in the way. Know-it-all opens his lecture reliably with some variation of, "Actually, I think you'll find that..."; this is a string of words simply not extant in the vocabulary of non-sufferers. He can be identified initially by his perennial look of smug condescension and the air of superciliousness that he assumes upon entering a room containing people his own age -- whom naturally he regards and treats as younger. Similarly, entering a room full of his elders, whose factual, grammatical or other errors in conversation he will earn himself more auto high fives for correcting, immediately brands know-it-all with an over-eager determination to impress and to "pwn" that should be familiar to all who have observed an eleven-year-old try to hold his own at his first 'adult' engagement. A touch of Asperger's helps know-it-all-ism along marvellously.

People (almost always women) who feel some bizarre compulsion to make excuses to anyone in earshot when they eat something other than air salad with a side of air. It betrays a very meek, childish mentality, constantly apologetic and servile. You are the only one who cares what you're eating, you don't need to excuse yourself with "I've had no breakfast today" or something equally irrelevant to everyone else everywhere. I wouldn't give a damn if someone gobbled up a roast giraffe followed by a flaming Christmas pudding in front of me. Do what you want, you're an adult. No one cares as much as you do.

People so personality-free that they really are defined by their clothes and taste in music, which probably pleases the vapid oxygen thieves.

Someone putting his hand on the small of your back. I had this happen to me once and I jumped like a cat that got sprayed with cold water.

I recall of a teacher/lecturer I had a few years ago in vocational school, I remeember him telling the class one day, that he had signed up for a certain course. At the first day of the course, the instructor had told the class there was going to be homeworks over the winter break. Well that was enough for him to drop out of that class right away!
