Does Anybody Do Yoga or Pilates?

Physio suggested I do yoga or pilates for core work, muscular imbalances, and flexibility. Does anybody here do yoga or pilates? Would you recommend one over the other? Or neither?

I do a Yoga posture for my back. I belive it is called the pecock. You start doing something like a frog stance, balancing on your hands and resting your elbows on your hips. Then, you stretch out your body horizontally while resting your elbow near the solar plexis. This is held for as long as possible. Advanced versions call for lifting the legs vertically. What this has done for me is tighten the spinal ligaments (theoritically impossible) which holds the vertebrae in place. Mine ligaments were damaged when I broke my back (17years old). After discovering this posture, I was able to ride a surfboard once more.

I also sometimes do some Chinese movements from the Book of Changing Ligaments.

Yoga is better. I would choose a teacher who is tough, traditional and strict, maybe connected to a Buddhist centre.

I would advise against pilates, because this world is impure and we need more physical purification than pilates will provide us. That is just my opinion, try both and different teachers and see how your body reacts.
