Women & the 50 Shades... Phenomenon

Now probly all women have heard about the 50 Shades... phenomenon. Allegedly most women are obsessed with the book/movie. Most popular reading material, etc. There's even psychological articles out there tryin to elude this mystery, like Why Women are Drawn to 'Fifty Shades of Grey' or 7 Scientific Reasons Women Are Obsessed With '50 Shades Of Grey'

And apparently some folks seem to think that because of this, what women really want is domination/to be submissive to men, etc. Some even go as far as sayin that chicks who read/watch it have rape fantasies.

Whatcha say? Is it some cheap/overrated erotic fiction, or does it reveal some hidden desire for women to go back to "traditional" roles?

The Fifty Shades of Grey book gives readers a 'holiday from their husband' according to author EL James

7 Things Men Can Learn From Fifty Shades Of Grey

And can men learn something from it? Are women attracted by "strong" types and do nice guys finish last, as the sayin goes?

Or do men just not understand women and the difference between fantasy/fiction and reality?

P.S. The poll is for chicks, dudes be so kind to stay out.

I think a lot of it comes down to women being attracted to strong men, yes. The violence stuff however is just a fantasy, it's more symbolic. I don't know any woman who would in her right mind want to be hit, "molested" or raped by a man.

I think the rape theory is simply bullsh*t. Only someone who knows very little about women's minds would put forward that garbage.

I'm also attracted to a strong man, my husband is a strong man. But no force fantasies whatsoever. Even in marriage, sex must be consensual. A partner isn't an object which can be abused at any time.

Yes, a man is head of the family, but no corporal punishment and the like. Women aren't children. A healthy family doesn't concern itself with deviancies.

I agree, Most women do like strong men and I think this rape theory is BS to help justify the sick people that want to commit rape. It also tries to humanize the rapist for their inhuman acts.

There is a cure for rapist and pedophiles and it is called capital punishment, no need for long periods of incarceration or therapy, just thirteen short steps up to a platform and sudden drop with a rope around their neck.

Edit: Then again this 50 shapes of grey just may very well be another tool to further the agenda of cultural marxism and the downfall of decent moral values.

While it could be argued that the character of Christian Grey is a rapist, the book is about the D/s lifestyle and BDSM - not rape. Rape has nothing to do with it. The book shows us a terrible example of a D/s relationship, but it's the author's fantasy. A fantasy many women share. One of giving up control (and hence personal responsibility) and being put in their place by a dominant man they can trust, who draws a line in the sand when they go too far. Someone who is especially dominant when it comes to bedroom activities. Women fantasizing about a man taking charge and demanding submission, especially in the sack, that is hardly a surprise and perhaps the most common female fantasy - it sure beats any fantasies about feminist boyfriends/husbands who are nice and concerned and ask whether "it hurts" or not every 30 seconds, there's nothing sexy about that. It's a turnoff.

Not sure why this poorly written book became a bestseller, there's no objective reason for it. There are 100.000s of similar stories a single mouse click away, but this run-off-the-mill erotic story became a bestseller.

I'd imagine the women who buy into 50 Shades of Grey view of Christian Grey would be different if he was a trashy meth addict living in a run-down trailer in a meth village out in the backwater deserts of California.

Obviously, "he's rich, tall, handsome, and mysterious" seems to be a key component to his attractiveness. Emphasis on the rich and tall.

Yep, probably has something to do with women's desire to return to "traditional" roles. Feminism and MGTOW not to mention other taboo stuff has become more the rule lately than the exception.

So chicks wanna return to the "head of the family" who wears the pants in the relationship thing.

Men Want Women to Be More Traditional - and Women 'Are HAPPY to Be the Housewife'

    LOL.

Guess it has to do with the pussifying of modern men and feminist definitions of rape being "rough sex" or "regretted sex".

Probly cause many women just ain't getting any/enough action and/or are missing somethin from their relationships. Read somewhere it was most popular among married folks.

This whole 50 shades things is a farce and just another consumeristic ploy.

What now seems like a lifetime ago, a book and movie came out that was called 9 1/2 weeks and it got much the same hype and publicity as this 50 shades thing. People are told what to buy by the media and they are told what is "riskeh" and taboo by the media. Many of the women/people who are into this 50 shades thing are doing so because they are told to by others under peer pressure and the media.

I would wager to say that most women would prefer sensual love making to any form of BDSM or S&M or whatever. If you guys and girls don't know what sensual love making is than I truly feel sorry for you as you are missing out on something very special.

I don't know anything about this movie,
nor anything about it's actors, writers and makers.

My father had been a mentally weak type of person.
When I had been at the age of around 20,
I had thought, that everything old had the
reputation being "Nazi" , and therefore everything
    different would be acceptable.
I was not successful being "liberal" in that sense.

Movie making is a business, and for "new" unusual
    products there the money goes.
So they Hollywood-Gjus are successful implementing
    something more "new" .
Something faster, louder, higher, etc. is
"new" in the sense of subjectively not seen yet.
The past already had such times as in the
Ancient Roman Empire, but there are no authentic
film stripes left; compared to the 1920s and afterwards.
So no money in documentaries of the 20th century
    and before.
We will still see Hitler documentaries with materiel
not presented to the public until now, in future.
