    Your Experiences Dating Vegans

So, about less than a year back I was going out with a Vegan. Usually when I meet a Vegan I just straight up ask them why they chose the Vegan lifestyle and they typically give me answer like they saw some film about animal cruelty in the corporate farms and that's why they're primarily against it.

But, the Vegan I was going out with told me she was a Vegan because in her words "my body doesn't react well to meat." I didn't think much of it until we really started actively going out. Me, personally, back in 2015 I worked out for the entire year, practically every day, and it involved weightlifting and strength gains, so I had to have a high protein diet. So, I need meat. At one point I was eating 3 different types of meats a day.

We have restaurants like In N Out here, and they are easy spots to just sit down at and talk, and when I'm there, I'd offer to buy her something to eat, but she would always turn me down. At first it didn't bother me, but as we continued to go out more, I noticed it was a trend, and it made me a little uncomfortable sometimes (not that I care what other people think of me), but, I would sit there eating and she wasn't. I wasn't sure what others would think (IE, "he can't even buy his girlfriend something to eat?") Maybe people didn't really care, but, still, it just didn't seem right to me sometimes.

And when we would go shopping together, she would literally buy bare minimum of things. Like once, she just bought bread, rice, guacamole, those "organic" eggs and milk. She actually expected her and I to eat that for dinner for that night before we went to bed. There are Vegan restaurants out here, but I never had the chance to take her to one.

Can't really say now I'm too keen on dating another Vegan. For whatever reason, I notice women tend to stray towards the Vegetarian and Vegan diets more than men. If I recall correctly, some Skadi members on here are Vegans

But, anyway, what are your experiences with dating Vegans, if you've dated any at all? Being a meat eater, did that ever have somewhat of an affect on your dating routine and relationship with them?

I am vegan. Yes, it has to do with animal cruelty but also with the fact that meat is infested with antibiotics and other undesirable substances. I wouldn't touch supermarket meat.

However, this is my choice and I don't shove it down anyone's throat. If you want to eat meat, eat meat. Keep in mind though, that it's not really necessary, you can live a life without eating meat and be healthy. Humans are not carnivores. Back in the day, our ancestors only ate meat 1-2 times a week.

Took one vegan girl out on a date once many years ago...

    This summed up the experience.

From my understanding, meat of any kind was a luxury back then. Only the land holders and lieges actually had a more meat substance diet. I believe they recently unearthed one of the participants (I forget who, I think it was the House of Tudor's Monarch?) in the War of the Roses and they saw what his last meal had been before he died and they found fowl and fish.

A former partner of mine was vegan. Hmm, I couldn't say it was a problem with dating, I cooked a different meal or same meal but without meat for him. He didn't try to convert me to veganism.

I don't think it's such an important part of the relation, other compatibilities are more important. As long as it's not a PETA, annoying type of activist.

Oh, I forgot to add. I wouldn't mind dating a meat eater as long as he respected my own lifestyle. Meat-eaters who try to convert vegans and vegetarians are just as annoying as vegans who try to convert meat-eaters.

To each his own. If you like eating meat, eat meat. But don't try to shove it down my throat.

I haven't dated any vegans but I don't think it should be an issue as long as both partners respect each other's choice. I don't understand this constant imposition of one's private choices onto others. People are different and they have different tastes, of course you can share your point of view and arguments in favor, but if that person does not want to change their diet, just mind your own business...

I dated a vegetarian girl in my younger years, she was concerned with animal welfare however she turned out to be more of a hippy. I tried to understand where she was coming from and accommodate her, however it didn't work out. I wouldn't say it was (just) the veganism though, we had other incompatibility issues.

I get the point some vegans and vegetarians are trying to make, we have become a consumerist culture with unhealthy gluttony standards. That said, meat is a traditional part of Germanic culture. I actually opened a topic about this some time back, Preserving National Cuisine: Tradition vs. Health? Many people seem to think the key lays in moderation. We mustn't become vegetarian or switch to a Mediterranean-type diet, however we could concern ourselves with eating healthier.

A friend of mine is vegan and she is married to a meat eater. They accept each other's choice for the most part, however they got into a conflict when they got a cat, she wanted to raise the cat vegan. Ultimately she gave up the idea. They have no children yet but they say they will let the child choose what kind of diet it wants. Until then, they would feed it a normal diet.

Cat are not omnivores, but carnivores. So they could not be raised vegan. Heck I remember reading an article several months ago where some vegans did try to raised their cat vegan, with resulted in a dangerously malnourished cat and them being charged with animal abuse(?).

Now to return ontopic. I have no experience dating one.
