    My name is Jablowme. Heywood Jablowme.
    And all my youth passed by sad-hearted,
    the joy of Spring was never mine;
    Autumn blows through me dread of parting,
    and my heart dreams and longs to die.

    - Nikolaus Lenau (1802-1850)

    Real misanthropes are not found in solitude, but in the world; since it is experience of life, and not philosophy, which produces real hatred of mankind.

    I think name-changing is stupid... a name shouldn't be one of those 'customizable' things that can be changed on a whim.

    Exactly.

    And it has to do with the fucked-up-ness of a country. America is paranoid in this regard. Nobody can accept what they are, namely simply Americans like 280 million other pieces of cattle. That is why they change their names, claim an ancestry they do not have (Cherokee, Sioux, direct Mayflower team descendant, famous civil war general grand-grandson and so on).

    There is something fundamentally wrong with you if you cannot live with what you are through birth. Your family name is a part of you. If you change it - outside marriage, which used to be the only sacrament man and woman gave to each other before God - you turn against your family.

    America is fake names, fake boobs, fake lips, fake curriculum vitae, fake people, fake friends, Fake fake fake fake fake. A truly faked-up country.

    Okay, but how is this any of your business? If a man wants to turn on his family by changing his name, to paraphrase you, that is his right. Whether it's moral or immoral isn't my problem or my business.

    He can still turn against his family without changing his name. Of course that's gutter behavior, so it is probably another American domain.
