Movements such as Hezbollah and the Moslem Brotherhood are progressive whilst traditional, to a lesser degree so we're the Nazi and Fascist movements of the 20th C. Imperial Japan was likewise progressive. Whereas the USA and USA stagnated whilst rejecting their roots. Historical US progressivism was essentially similar to Italian Fascism whilst the USA temporarily became similar to Fascism under Stalin.

It's really simple. Imagine two people named Progressive and Regressive standing on a road. Progressive is looking forward while regressive is looking backward. A regressive political movement is one that orients itself towards the past, the way things used to be, the good old days, etc. is not able to advance because it is standing backwards, and its eyes are looking backwards. Thus, it can move forward perhaps, but clumsily, without vision.

A movement that is progressive is able to change and adapt according to the times it finds itself in. Adaptation within a political movement involves using strategy, or is it tactics? In order to consider all the relevant impulses and use them to political advantage. Or whatever other unconventional means that are available. (We have our methods... ;-) ) Any movement that is able to do this is, in my view, progressive. It should also show, up to a certain point, steady improvement and growth.
