Canadian 'Hate Speech' Law is Unconstitutional, Rules Rights Tribunal

The Canadian Human Rights Tribunal has ruled that Section 13, Canada's much maligned human rights hate speech law, is an unconstitutional violation of the Charter right to free expression because of its penalty provisions. The decision released this morning by Tribunal chair Athanasios Hadjis appears to strip the Canadian Human Rights Commission of its controversial legal mandate to pursue hate on the Internet ... Today's shocking decision is a victory over Mr. Warman by Marc Lemire, webmaster of freeedomsite.org and a prominent figure in the Canadian far right, who was supported in his constitutional challenge of Section 13 by the legal team defended Holocaust denier Ernst Zundel.

Spain removed the holocaust denial penalty, Canada the hate speech law, should we start to see some light at the horizon?

Seems there are still some people able to think

No, it's just a tribunal ruling; it doesn't remove anything.

Hmm, but I assume that the Tribunal has some power? I mean, that when they ruled that out now that this has to be followed by the government?

Its only power is to rule on cases referred to it by the Canadian Human Rights Commission. The ruling applies to the individual case. I believe that this does set a precedent, but it does not change or remove any laws nor will it force the legislature to do so.

    Hmm, I see...

I always thought the German Federal Constitutional Court were the only one in the world without any power... however.

Still, it is some sort of good sign I would think that a court rules that way and not according to the pc demands.

I wouldn't read too much into it. It will be appealed and the decision likely reversed.

I think the ruling had more to do with Warman himself. Seems to me that he thinks the tribunal is a fine way to make a little spare change. This complaint not being so concrete, perhaps somebody decided to send him a message?

Keep in mind, this is not really a court. It's just one of several forms of alternative arbitration intended to keep Canada's court system from becoming more mired than it already is.

College Makes Students More Liberal, But Not Smarter About Civics, Study Finds

    The Chronicle of Higher Education

While many graduates of American colleges cannot answer basic civics questions, a higher education does make their opinions more liberal on controversial social issues, according to a new report issued on Friday by an academic think tank ... Previous surveys have found that, in general, college does not bring students up to a high level of civics knowledge. According to the institute's 2008 report, based on a survey of 2,500, people whose highest level of educational attainment was a bachelor's degree correctly answered 57 percent of the questions, on average. That is three percentage points lower than a passing grade, according to the survey's authors.

Indoctrination Center is an understatement, all that they ever do is push their liberal agenda. "Diversity diversity diversity." It starts in primary and secondary school, then jumps up a few notches in college. Worrisome, as the average person is somewhat simple and incapable of seeing past the destructive lies.
