    Most Typical 80s Song?

The 80´ies were unique in many ways, and that decade had a specific style of movies, music and fashion. Many still like these old times, some call them "cheesy". Remember the "Brat Pack" movies, for example? Can´t buy me love? The Breakfast Club? Some kind of wonderful? Ferries Bueller´s Day off? Better Off Dead?

What is the most 80´ies like music and film to you?

I think that music video to the movie "The Wraith" is as 80´ies as it can be!

The Wraith - Where´s the fire? (Tim Heehan)

"Judge of your natural character by what you do in your dreams" - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Great thread idea... while you were a little baby in the 80s, I was having some of the good and bad times you see in these movies.

I think the thing most people think of as "typical" 80s music came in the late middle of the decade. 1984-1987 or so, but digging through it, it's hard to say what's "typical," since there were different genres and different things that were typical for those genres, but something mainstream like this says "typical 80s" to me...

    The Cars - Drive

Then there is the more hair band/metal stuff...

    Scorpions - Still Loving You

And the ultra-sophisticated stuff (one of my favorites)...

Bryan Ferry - Slave to Love

I'll stop there for now so the page will still load

Most people think as they are trained to think, and most people make a majority.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.

However it was the time I came of age, meaning being a adult as much as I could be anyway. We were the first ones to have arcade ( video ) games, Valley Girls, Pong, big hair with moose in it, micro waves, VCR and Beta players, cable TV, TRS 80 and Comodor 64 home computers, New Coke, Heavy Metal Hair bands, HBO, Falco, MTV when they played music videos, Yuppies, and finally the end of the cold war and a united Germany.

Here are a few videos that ushered in the 80s These are actually from the 70s

    Blondie - Heart Of Glass

    First video played on MTV
Buggles - Video killed the radio star 1979

    Now for the 80s

a very famous video all I can say from a young man's eyes is ummm
    Nena - 99 Luftballons

The 80s were kind to German pop music.

    Falco - Der Kommissar

    A Flock Of Seagulls - I Ran

Twisted Sister -- We're Not Gonna Take it

I remember going to this concert...well sorta kinda remember
    dio - holy diver

OK, I had fun making this post.

More music videos later I only touched on a few of the iconic ones

Before it got mainstream and slick, the music called "New Wave" was actually new and different. I think the stuff that came out in the late 70s/early 80s had a big influence on the 80s sound overall...

One of those influential bands was Joy Division...

Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart

Which morphed into New Order after the suicide of leader Ian Curtis...

    New Order - True Faith

Then there was this song, which some put at the top of the list as greatest song of the 80s. I remember hanging out at a friend's place when his roommate brought this new tune in and played it for the first time, just having taken a chance that it would be good...

    Ultravox - Vienna

Another of his roommates had this on EP, which I kindly wore out for him. The other side was "Seventeen Seconds"...

    The Cure - A Forest

Most people think as they are trained to think, and most people make a majority.

    A true classic:

    Nena - 99 Luftballons

    One of my favourits:

Kim Wilde - Kids in America

    At least another real classic:

    Mike Oldfield - Moonlight Shadow

"Remember that, even when those who move you be kings or men of power, your soul is in your keeping alone. When you stand before God, you cannot say, "But I was told by others to do thus,"or that virtue "was not convenient at the time." This will not suffice."

"In A Big Country" by Big Country

This Scottish outfit's song is typical 1980s' pop.

    In A Big Country

Regrettably, I don't know how to upload it directly from Youtube into this post.

A democracy is nothing more than mob rule,
where 51% of the people may take away the rights of the other 49%.
