Life is like a fire hydrant- sometimes you help people put out their fires, but most of the time you just get peed on by every dog in the neighborhood.

When I saw the title to this thread again, one song came unbidden to my mind. This and the other hits on the same album, I have to say, truly typify the 80s for me. Some of the other songs I posted in this thread were really just good songs that I liked from the 80s, and were more or less typical of the era, but Tears for Fears' album "Songs from the Big Chair" was more typical than typical. It is pure essence of the 80s, from the most 80s year (1985.)

Tears For Fears - Everybody Wants To Rule The World

    Tears For Fears - Shout

Tears For Fears - Head Over Heels

Most people think as they are trained to think, and most people make a majority.

So many great songs have been mentioned already!

Perhaps not "typical 80s" for most people, but the late 1980s produced one of my favourite genres, Belgian New Beat:

(This rather silly video was probably filmed in a certain nightclub in Destelbergen)

Some more obscure, danceable 80s songs that seem typical of the era:

Let us not desire delights, daughters; we are well-off here; the bad inn lasts for only a night.
    -St. Teresa of Avila

(It doesn't matter how old the song is, I won't stop liking it).
