Exclamation "The World's 1st Website Went Online 25 Years Ago Today"

"The world's first website went online 25 years ago today" ~ The Telegraph

    "[By] Cara McGoogan

On this day 25 years ago the world's first website went live to the public. The site, created by Sir Tim Berners-Lee, was a basic text page with hyperlinked words that connected to other pages.

Berners-Lee used the public launch to outline his plan for the service, which would come to dominate life in the twenty-first century.
    "...GO HERE to read more.

"Far out" ...doesn't honestly 'feel like' that long ago, really, 1991, but 'twas a good ways back. I was in college at that time and did use personal computers then (entirely to word process my papers, essays, etc., which a certain % of my professors required), but they were relatively new to me and most folks back then, and hardly anybody 'mainstream' in the Western World (much less the rest of the world) back then had much of an idea about some 'internet.' It really is profoundly amazing just how far forward things have transpired since then.

I must credit NSFreja for pointing this out to me today, since I'm far to pre-occupied these days with a great many other things to have noticed it anytime soon.

Created a nuisance if you ask me.

The net brought the death of privacy and unprecedented globalism for us all.

    http://web.inter.nl.net/users/Paul.T...erliberal.html

More Webs are theoretically possible, but it has to be World Wide? Why? So that even benign measures such as those against child pornography, can acquire a harmful subtext? Notice its always American standards get pushed on the internet. Or maybe we should ban all criticisms of other cultures in our own countries, in case people abroad see it.

You can't even frame the openness in terms of free speech either, without reprehensible consequences. Remember when YouTube hid behind free speech to justify hosting bullying videos? What about the EU's right to be forgotten and move on with one's life, and its conflict with basic data freedoms as promoted by (guess who) the USA? The entire information age is antithetical to old rights and liberties.

There are harmful assumptions driving the familiar WWW. Surely not in the mind of Sir Tim Berners-Lee himself but the notion and its practicality tapped into a zeitgeist didn't it? All the nastiness surrounding the internet has, at its root, implicitly American assumptions and preferences.

Subtle... This is how a Brit trolls, and trolls exquisitely...

    But, I'll answer.

    1) You don't like the Interwebs
    2) You don't want to participate
    3) ...profit...
    4) unplug
    5) Privacy restored (you're not online anymore, you're invis)

    Its not true though.

Even if you aren't American, an American might post information about you on an American server, and still be subject only to America's repulsive interpretation of free speech. If they can't get away with it there then they can host it somewhere else.

Get rid of the dominant mindset to information and the net becomes much nicer.

Internet reality disproves liberalism not only by its chaos but because someone inevitably stepped up to impose order. (Google taking the functions of a state et cetera.) Nature abhors a vacuum as one White Nationalist said.

The web is a double edged sword. The mainstream media has been bypassed and Nationalist ideas have gained ground.

The internet gave us all a voice against the throng of the mass leftist and Jewish media. Now we can express ourselves and we have found support where before it was just the party line. Ever wonder if the internet had come along 20 years earlier how long the Soviet Union would have lasted?

    Arrow Soviet Union, Etc....

...good question. They would have fought it similarly to the way Communist China has fought it, and said Chinese actually have a history of doing it and their state survived and continues to survive. Maybe the U. S. S. R. still would have (supposedly) 'died' the way it did and in in the time-frame it did regardless of the internet.

Ahhh, I remind ye folks, the primary focus of this thread/topic is the first website and websites ensuing from it (rather than a full-blown discussion of the internet as a whole and whether or not it's valuable, etc.).

Well Mike, as we talked about, if we had never got online and started to chat to other people all over the Western World and also not have got the chance to get a totally new "network" of likeminded friends, well, who knows how things would have looked like today.. I know atleast my life would have been so much poorer without the contact with likeminded and all the sometimes totally crazy and wild discussions we had back then, just thinking about it now makes me laugh
And i have to say, of all those people i met and chatted with back then, i am still in contact with 2 of them, my ol' friend Mike ofcourse and one other who was the first one i ever chatted with online.. I am pretty sure he might see this post and i bet he will be smiling when reading this
19-20 years of great friendship (a friendship that would have been impossible without internet) and i hope there will be many many more years of friendship

The internet is causing a global revolution. I believe ISIS are in part a reaction against globalism, they are saying "This is Islam, back off". Mass migration from the orient has been enabled by social networking. Globalism is in decline, Nationalism is on the rise, the EU has fallen, neoliberalism is in decline, Trump has taken the USA by storm. The whole globalist neoliberal Tower of Babel has been undermined.
