As I have said before: A large caliber auto pistol, like a .45 or 10 mm Glock, and a 7,62 Nato rifle like an FN FAL or G3. Put a decent scope on the rifle and you are very, very dangerous.

Truth is, getting shot by anything, large or small, has the potential to totally ruin your day.

You may have noticed the FBI has switched to the 9mm for issue, shooting Speer 147gr Gold Dot 2 JHPs.

Most people without any real training can put a couple of 9mm shots into a 10 circle at 10 yards very quickly.

10mm is somewhat too much for a lot of people, which is too bad as it's a great hunting round...

The 10mm is the perfect handgun cartridge. It's about the hottest thing you can shoot out of a normal semi-auto handgun, which means you are not limited by the number of rounds a revolver cylinder can hold, and that is 8 for a very large S&W .357 magnum. Normal hot 10mm loads are about the equivalent in energy to a .357mag, and in a Glock20/Glock40 you can have 15+1 rounds, so, twice as many. I don't consider 10mm recoil to be extreme at all, but it's not for the inexperienced. I find it actually more accurate to shoot than a .45 or 9mm, because its trajectory is so much flatter. Its trajectory is flatter because it's moving faster, and being faster, it also delivers more energy on target.

As to the idea that being shot with anything will ruin your day, that's true. But an opponent can still fight on and possibly kill you while having a bad day himself. The goal is to render the target down and out with as few shots as possible, and that's the idea with the 10mm. Then you still have surplus rounds to deal with the next bad guy. While it's true that you can kill someone in one shot with a .22, it's also true that you can win the lottery. One shot in the head or center mass with a 10mm and odds are your target will expire within seconds. Ronald Reagan was shot in the torso with a .22 and said he didn't even realize it. They were certainly able to save him without too much difficulty, and he was 70 years old. John Hinckley shot 4 people with his .22 that day, and all of them survived, though James Brady suffered severe brain damage from a shot that entered his temple, one of the areas where the skull is thinnest. The 10mm round was not developed until 2 years after these attempted murders, but given the locations of the wounds, had Hinckley used a 10mm handgun, all 4 men would surely have died before they could get to the hospital, and the bullet blocked by the Secret Service agent might well have passed through his body entirely and struck Reagan a second time, ensuring his death.

On the top five guns to buy before an election, depends if you are buying them for investment reasons or you just want them as a "just in case".

This is my top 5 list of guns for investments in case an election goes wrong.

    1. AR-15 or any variant of this, if you do not already own one or two.
    2. Any good quality high magazine capacity auto pistol.
    3. Any good quality tactical shotgun.
    4. If you are into it silenced weapons they are always on the list of being banned.
    5. Anything that looks scary to the liberal nut jobs that want to ban guns because the look fierce. We all know it is not how well the gun performs, but how scary it looks.

When it comes to the AR type weapons, they love company. So, keep them happy by having more than one to share with friends, neighbors, and other like minded people.

Other than that something is better than nothing, be sure to stock up on plenty of ammo and always remember your enemy will bring you what you need to fight them.

Since I personally prefer hunting type shotguns ( double barrels ) and rifles ( single shots ) more than tactical type guns, it is always a good idea to buy what you want while the prices are still low. Nonetheless, always have defensive/ tactical weapons on hand and practice with them as much as you can afford to.

    Thanks guys.

Brave Spear has something here with ammo. In California the governor signed a new law requiring a person to get a license in order just to buy ammo. Why? Well, you can't say you lost your AR 15 in a boating accident if you are still buying ammo. Yes, they track ammo purchases. Why? So they know you sill have a gun---a gun the government wants to take away.

Another ammo point: Remember after WW2 in Germany when they had no real currency for awhile? Cigaretts became currency. Likewise, in a collapse we may have a "bullet" economy. Presumably, this would be 556/223 ammo of "America's rifle". For Californians it might be wise to stockpile ammo which was purchased out of state in, for instance, Nevada gun shows.

    That is SpearBrave...thank you.

The state of Illinois has had a ammo license law for decades, people just come to Indiana to buy guns and ammo. The point of the license is useless unless it becomes a federal issue. There are no federal laws prohibiting the transport of legal guns and ammo across state lines at least that I know of.

I would personally not live in state that has harsh gun laws, they always seem to have too much violent crime. A armed society is a polite society.

The Colt M1911 is my sole reccomendation for a side-arm and some kind of scatter-gun like an Ithaca 37.

Sorry, I don't like guns; modern guns that is.
