Admixture into and Within Sub-Saharan Africa

Negroid and Caucasoid expansions through Africa.

Similarity between two individuals in the combination of genetic markers along their chromosomes indicates shared ancestry and can be used to identify historical connections between different population groups due to admixture. We use a genome-wide, haplotype-based, analysis to characterise the structure of genetic diversity and gene-flow in a collection of 48 sub-Saharan African groups. We show that coastal populations experienced an influx of Eurasian haplotypes over the last 7000 years, and that Eastern and Southern Niger-Congo speaking groups share ancestry with Central West Africans as a result of recent population expansions. In fact, most sub-Saharan populations share ancestry with groups from outside of their current geographic region as a result of gene-flow within the last 4000 years. Our in-depth analysis provides insight into haplotype sharing across different ethno-linguistic groups and the recent movement of alleles into new environments, both of which are relevant to studies of genetic epidemiology.

Whats new here, not much. We expected colonial era admixture and Asian admixture in the Swahili area. Lets look at their claims about whites in Africa which is a taboo topic because of Hamitic race theories.

White admixture in Mali and Gambia is from Europe through North Africa. This European blood is from the past 3,000 years. White admixture in the Fulani came via the Horn of Africa so is labelled "Afroasiatic". There were several waves of Mediterranean ancestry into the Horn. The Ju/’hoansi from South Africa have white Mediterranean ancestors also through the Horn.

The problems with this paper are 1) no actual Middle Eastern samples so they use Tuscany as a proxy and 2) improper assumption of language families, for example presumed cattle herders in Southern Africa are assumed "Afroasiatic".

Last thing of interest with shades of the Solutrean Hypothesis: the f3 statistics show the general presence of ancient Eurasian ancestry across much of sub-Saharan Africa, possibly consistent with recent research suggesting Upper Paleolithic backmigrations from Eurasia, so the descendants of these early white(?) colonists presumably being wiped out by the expanding Negroid races.

There were whites in East Africa before historical times. Louis Leakey published a book in the 1930s titled Stone Age Races of East Africa with drawings and photographic plates of several stone age races inhabiting Kenya. Two looked very white. One was metrically Corded according to Coon.

I understand a big restudy of Africa's Pleistocene and Holocene hunter gatherers is coming in the wake of Nataruk.
