Air in a Goat Skin: Is There a Metalworker in Asgard?

Did recorded Norse mythology lose a smith god?

    https://www.academia.edu/11567328/Ai...rker_in_Asgard

Metalworking is a key part of human development. It has given names to archaeological ages and it is difficult to think of human activities where its products are not involved. Metalworking is likewise important in most mythologies. In Greek myth there is Hephaistos; in Roman, Vulcan. Egypt can look to Hathor or Ptah; Ireland to Goibnu or Brigid. But in the North? Where is the Smith God in Anglo-Saxon or Norse mythology?

They were not listed as gods in the term we know, but supernatural beings known as Dwarfs.

Life is like a fire hydrant- sometimes you help people put out their fires, but most of the time you just get peed on by every dog in the neighborhood.

The author mentions the dwarves, but they aren't the only smiths.

“The Æsir met on Idavoll Plain, they built altars and high temples; they set up their forges, smithed precious things, shaped tongs and made tools.”

So, I have read before and been told, but the author says different.

Most smiths that I know that are heathens claim Donar( Thor ) as well, but he is also the god of protection of the common man?

There's also the supernatural figure of Wayland the Smith/Völundr, Prince of the Elves/King of the Finns.

Its Odin who has the characteristics of an IE forge god, the parallels were mentioned by Eliade and others. Most obvious are the Caucasian parallels like Ossetic Kurdalagon and Circassian Tlepsh. don't forget that smithing and shamanism are linked across Eurasia.
