What are your opinions of the AltRight (Alternative Right) and Neoreactionary milieus?

I think it started off ok with some decent philosophical insights but has degenerated quite a bit in the last few years and really has become a cesspool of edgy dickheads.

NRx was pseudointellectual and pretentious but briefly attracted a lot of free thought about tabooed opinions. Alt-right started off as a thinktank modernising by building upon the old right, then descended into stupid, aggressive spam.

Thanks. I'm relatively new to both, so I'm unaware of the twists and turns. Maybe
it's time too reclaim the concepts.

Both movements (they can barely be called that) were dragged backward from the start by e-celebs. The short history of the alt-right is so far a series of petulent feuds between Spencer, Johnson and Liddell. Most people's memories of NRx will probably be Anissimov versus Tunney. The internet right is hardly dignified.

There's gold among the dross but there's a hell of a lot of deeply sick and dangerous dross. Things like the prominence of homosexuals as arbiters of gender relations and vicious mob-like radicalism, backbiting, and ironic snark for its own sake are just the tip of the iceberg.

The original AltRight site started off with promise and gentlemanly order and that got dumped because of radicalism the founder didn't want to be associated with being published therein and to pursue a new webzine (Radix) that pushed the envelope further.

NRx/Dark Enlightenment never made any sense to me because as I've said before, it's a cluster of often completely contradictory worldviews and mere aesthetics - one big amorphous rebellion, a war of all against all. That's all well and good as a springboard of thought but it does not make for a positive movement, foundations need coherence.

Colin Liddell's humour (not radical intent) went too far when it reflected badly on Richard Spencer's media publicity ("Is Black Genocide right?") but his own pieces are less biting now. There might be something going on behind the scenes with the Regnerys pulling strings?

Actually NRx is based upon Mencius Moldbug. NRx was never the same as the dark enlightenment which is related to "hatefacts" that undermine feminist, LGBT & anti-racist narratives.

The Dark Enlightenment is more than NRx but all its facets share the same basic belief in NRx in the rejection of egalitarianism. Neoreactionary but not necessarily neoreaction.

That sort of sophistry by NRxers is why NRx came to be seen as ridiculous.
