If You Had to Live in Another Germanic Country...

    ...which one would it be?

For me, it would be the German-speaking parts of Switzerland. Why?
    - One of highest standards of living in the world
    - German speaking (language I already know) and good understanding of English too for where I falter
    - some of best environment / nature in Europe for exploring
    - central location in Europe

The minute I saw the title of your thread, Englisc, I thought: well, that's easy, Switzerland, of course.

The Swiss Germans are filthy rich, patriotic, disciplined, not part of the E.U., they got their communatarian business in order, in short, they're unlike many other Germanic countries. The landscape is stunning, while I can only dream of mountains and nature. And the Swiss are able to mobilize their militia army in the time space of a few minutes, also a very admirable thing.

Australia. I spent a couple of months there last year and it was great fun.

Australia has an incredible variation in climate and landscape as well as some of the most extraordinary animals on the planet.

The people are generally friendly and not stuck up. The beach culture is fun as well. It is a place I really wouldn't mind living.

I wish the poll was multiple choice.

Personally it would be hard for me to live someplace other than rural America. I would pick not in this order, that would require more travel to make a good choice.

    Germany
    Austria
    Switzerland
    Canada
    perhaps New Zealand

I don't know if USA is considered Germanic but that's where I want to live as my love is there. Other than that I could only consider Denmark or southern Sweden, have no desire to live anywhere else.

Despite the racial others, America was founded and settled by Germanics. Mainly English at first then Germans. In fact Germans make up the largest single ethnic group in America even today.

The American Constitution is primarily based on Anglo-Saxon common law.

The United Kingdom - particularly England, as that is the component of my heritage with which I am the most familiar, where I have spent a great deal of time, and where I still have family, which would make the transition easier. We are from Shropshire, which I consider to be one of the most beautiful regions in England and, having largely been spared the onslaught of immigration, a rare example that still feels "English".

I would also not be averse to Scotland, and perhaps Germany, as I have a decent command of the language and an affinity for the culture, customs, sights, and people.

Although I speak German, I'm not sure I'd want to live there due to the migrant situation. I visited Iceland a couple years ago, and it has a beauty unparalleled in the world. However, I would go with Australia or New Zealand because I'd probably assimilate the best there.

May as well go back to the motherland of England. I lived there for a year during college and loved it.
