Climate-mediated Shifts in Neandertal Subsistence Behaviors at Pech De L'Azé IV and Roc De Marsal (Dordogne Valley, France)

Neanderthals were hit hard in glacial periods, but may have been on the edge of sufficient nutrient availability even during interglacials?

Here is the problem with that study. Anthropology depends upon government grants, at least in the USA. Government grants depend on the politics of the administration in power. So, for instance, during the Lyndon B. Johnson years, an anthropologist got a grant to study rural roads in Thailand. Fine? Wrong. His real work was to identify the shortest, straightest route between the capital and the Vietnamese border. Why, for rapid deployment of troops. This anthropologist was outted and paid an academic price for collaboration with the US military.

Similarly, the Obama Administration identifies the greatest threat to America as climate change. Read the writing on the wall. Anyone applying for a grant these days must tie his study into the evils of climate change or he gets no money. This is a great example.
