    Songs For or About Mothers

It is Mother's Day here in America, so why not some songs dedicated to mothers.

The only ones I can think of atm is country songs from the USA, what are your favorites from your home country?

Life is like a fire hydrant- sometimes you help people put out their fires, but most of the time you just get peed on by every dog in the neighborhood.

I really like this song by Heintje. Being the mother of two sons this song is very special to me.

And here a very nice mother-daughter song. As a mother (and father) it is very hard to let go of your children, but necessary. This is for my daughter, my (our)baby girl as she was called by her Dad as well as me. I still call her that today. I was 38 and my husband was 45 when she was born.

Good thread, especially because Mother's Day is coming soon again!

In the country where I grew up it was Mother's Day, during communist era, on the 8th of March, but in the more recent years, after the fall of communism, it became Woman's Day instead. So now the 8th of March is usually celebrated as Woman's Day, and usually only older people still call it Mother's Day, like it was before '89 and a few years after. During my childhood it was still celebrated as Mother's Day...

From Romania I like this old song, which I think it is from 1973:

The lyrics are not so much about venerating one's mother, but are more like a story about a young man and his parents... I don't dare to try to translate the lyrics into English, because the translation may lose much of its meaning. This band made history in Romania, and it's still playing today, but of course most of the band members changed over time (only one band member, Nicu Covaci, is still in the band today). If anyone is interested, more information here.

What came to my mind from the English speaking world:

And another good song that came to my mind, about women this time, a very controversial one:

Aaaaaand... now from Norway , a very nice and emotional song dedicated to mothers:

In Norway the 8th of March is also Women's Day, while Mother's Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of February.
Die Farben duften frisch und grün... Lieblich haucht der Wind um mich.
