Common Misconceptions About Our Heathen Faith

I am planning on writing a heathen book through a racialist point of view. One of the things I will be discussing includes common misconceptions about Germanic heathenism. Please, list some misconceptions you know of.

Oh boy, where do you even begin on such a gargantuan task?

Let see: properly the most common misconception is that Heathendom is a 'Viking religion' and that it is all about drinking too much and glorifying fighting and bloodshed. I even had a acquittance (although a rather dubious one) remark in joking that as a Heathen I liked long walks because I were looking for fair maidens to rape! Needless to say, he does not enjoy a particular central role in my current social life. Your book should emphasise that Heathendom were practiced by all social classes for millenia and is not particularly tied to the Viking Age and sword-fighting plunderers.

Another is that we are a an amateur theatre group who need to dress up in historical outfits complete with horned helmets before we can do our rituals. I have nothing against people who enjoy a historical fair, but it is not the most serious approach to Heathendom.

A third would be that you need to enjoy and constantly listen to Viking Metal and that this is where we get 'our' ideas from. It would be nice with a book to emphasise that you can enjoy whatever music you like and still be a 'real' Heathen. And by extension to this, that not all Heathens are scrawny fourteen year old Heavy Metal fanatics living in our (Christian) parent's basements. Some of us have actually grown out of this 'playgan' stage, put on some brawn and moved into our own place.

Any book seeking to enlighten the uninitiated into our way of life should probably deal with these subjects. There are probably several others, but this is the most annoying misconceptions that I have had to deal with.

If you're writing from a racialist point of view a big misconception is that any folkish/racialist heathen is "racist" or "hates everyone else." Another annoying misconception is that heathens aren't serious and that "no one can actually believe in more than one god."

Probably you have do deal with the content of Movies and how the Gods are depicted.

Heathenism is a nature related 'religion'. therefore our connection to nature.

heathenism is Nazi might be another misconception.

Our Gods are only phantasy schimaera.

Heathenism do blood sacrifices and human sacrifices. (if there would be no law preventing them)

Heathen are heathen because they want to be special and strange, they are basically attention getters.

As not much is known about the old religion it is all theatrical

there are dark forces behind heathenism, it is basically satanism

It is something for weird people

Heathen are 'backwards' oriented, trying to repeat are glorious violent past in a modern age.

    Tattoos and else are subculture

A common misconception is that we are like Wiccans, all fluffy bunny, lesbian ,crystal wavers. All the misgivings are formed from a Judeo-Christian mindset , its now secular version and new age spiritualism included.

Another common misconception is that "Only Young Guys are interested in being Heathens and Following our Heathen Gods and Goddesses".
Most of the Folks I know who actually regularly practice our Holy Faith, Asatru are Family Folks, married men and women and frequently even their children join in to pay Homage to the High Ones.

What really annoys me is that more people automatically think you are a wiccan if you say that you are heathen. That is why i usually use the term Asatru(ar) instead of heathen. Wiccans are an invention of the 60ies, to me they do not even deserve to be called heathen !!!
There won't be humans in 500 years. Enough people choke themselves when they jerk off we gave it a name. We ain't a species made to last.

Judging by it´s name common sense must once have been a pretty common thing. When and why did that change, so it became the rare treasure it is today???

Just to keep this thread going, I, as the OP, wish to contribute.

    1). We are liberal hippies.

2). We get drunk on mead or ale.

3). Our faith is unfriendly to women. (Seid anyone?)

    4). We are sexually immoral

And the most annoying misconception is . . .

    *Drum roll*

5). We "abuse" Germanic symbols when we display them.

Here the term heathen is more connected with atheism then with wicca. Wicce is here more associated with the word pagan. So that would be an other common misconception, namely that we in reality are atheists.
The sense of honor is of so fine and delicate a nature that
it is only to be met with in minds which are naturally noble or
cultivated by good examples and a refined education.

That it can be a pan-racial/ethnic faith.
