    Amazing Grace of course:

    Amazing Grace

    Amazing grace! (how sweet the sound)
    That sav'd a wretch like me!
    I once was lost, but now am found,
    Was blind, but now I see.

    'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
    And grace my fears reliev'd;
    How precious did that grace appear
    The hour I first believ'd!

    Thro' many dangers, toils, and snares,
    I have already come;
    'Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
    And grace will lead me home.

    The Lord has promis'd good to me,
    His word my hope secures;
    He will my shield and portion be
    As long as life endures.

    Yes, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
    And mortal life shall cease;
    I shall possess, within the veil,
    A life of joy and peace.

    The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
    The sun forbear to shine;
    But God, who call'd me here below,
    Will be forever mine.

    The church-song

    Großer Gott, wir loben Dich... Roman Catholic "Gotteslob" No.257

    1. Strophe:
    1. Großer Gott, wir loben dich, Herr, wir preisen deine Stärke.
    Vor dir neigt die Erde sich und bewundert deine Werke.
    Wie du warst vor aller Zeit, so bleibst du in Ewigkeit.

    9. Strophe:
    9. Sieh dein Volk in Gnaden an, hilf uns, segne, Herr, dein Erbe;
    leit’ es auf der rechten Bahn, dass der Feind es nicht verderbe.
    Führe es durch diese Zeit, nimm es auf in Ewigkeit.

    ... unauthorized translation, just an essay...

    (Look upon Your folk with grace, help us, bless oh God, thy heirloom
    guide us on the righte-ous path, make the foe won't spoil it to do-o-om,
    lead it through these heavy days, take it to-o eter-her-nal ways.)

    I hate to translate episcopal rhubarb... but it meets the requierences and the music with organ at all registers ... mindblowing.

    See : youtube: großer Gott wir loben dich
    "Ein Volk, das keine Waffen trägt, wird Ketten tragen!"
    (A populace not carrying arms will carry chains)

    What a wonderful way to start out the day...with words and music to praise HIM...after I spent some time in scripture like every morning. And here is my favorite hymn by one of the great champions of the Christian faith, Martin Luther, without a doubt inspired by the third person of the Holy Trinity. Indeed, HE, GOD, is a MIGHTY FORTRESS. ~ Georgia

    A Mighty Fortress Is Our God.

    http://www.hymnsite.com/lyrics/umh110.sht

    A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing; our helper he amid the flood of mortal ills prevaling. For still our ancient foe doth seek to work us woe; his craft and power are great, and armed with cruel hate, on earth is not his equal.

    Did we in our own strength confide, our striving would be losing, were not the right man on our side, the man of God's own choosing. Dost ask who that may be? Christ Jesus, it is he; Lord Sabaoth, his name, from age to age the same, and he must win the battle.

    And though this world, with devils filled, should threaten to undo us, we will not fear, for God hath willed his truth to triumph through us. The Prince of Darkness grim, we tremble not for him; his rage we can endure, for lo, his doom is sure; one little word shall fell him.

    That word above all earthly powers, no thanks to them, abideth; the Spirit and the gifts are ours, thru him who with us sideth. Let goods and kindred go, this mortal life also; the body they may kill; God's truth abideth still; his kingdom is forever.
    I have but one lamp by which my feet are guided; and that is the lamp of experience. I know of no way of judging the future but by the past.
    Patrick Henry

    If I had to choose a favourite Christian hymn, I'm not entirely sure what the definition of hymn is in regards to this thread, I would choose this:

    Wach auf, wach auf, du deutsches Land!
    Du hast genug geschlafen!
    Bedenk, was Gott an dich gewandt,
    wozu er dich erschaffen.
    Bedenk, was Gott dir hat gesandt
    Und dir vertraut sein höchstes Pfand.
    Drum magst magst du wohl aufwachen.

    Gott hat dich, deutsches Volk, geehrt
    mit seinem Wort der Gnaden,
    groß Hilf und Kraft dir auch beschert,
    Elend und Not zu tragen,
    Viel Feind, groß Not und Hassgeschrei
    Tritt an und fürcht ihr keinerlei!
    Die Rott´ wirst du zerschlagen.

    -Johann Walter, 1561

    Translation by myself(in the German original it obviously rhymes but with my limited knowledge of English it wasn't possible):

    Wake up, wake up, you German land!
    You've slept long enough!
    Consider, what God has called upon you,
    for what he has created you.
    Consider, what God has sent you,
    And entrusted you with his most precious pledge.
    Thus you may well wake up.

    God has honoured you, German people,
    with his word of grace,
    granted you much help and strength,
    to endure misery and distress,
    Many enemies, much distress and cries of hate,
    Step up and fear them not!
    The horde you will shatter.

    Wach auf, wach auf du, deutsches Land

    And the day they sold us out, Our hearts grew cold
    'Cause we were never asked, No brother, we were told!
    What do they know of Europe, Who only Europe know?

    Changed my mind, for today it's this:
    What Wonderous Love is This
    Denn das Schöne ist nichts
 als des Schrecklichen Anfang, den wir noch grade ertragen,
 und wir bewundern es so, weil es gelassen verschmäht, uns zu zerstören.

    Being serious, it would be either "Jerusalem" (not technically a hymn since it is not a prayer)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKRHW...eature=related

    or "Glorious Things of thee are spoken, Zion city of our God"
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrHI3...eature=related

    And of course "Ein Feste Burg ist unser Gott"
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOm1_ta4rGI
    Das Recht und die Gerechtigkeit haben nur selten miteinander etwas zu tun. Höchstens machen sie winki winki wenn sie aneinander vorbei gehen.
    The Law and Justice have only seldom anything to do with one another. At the most they wave at each other when they pass one another on the street.
    Niemals vergessen. Niemals vergeben.

    Thank you, Stalin. Thank you because I am joyful. Thank you because I am well. No matter how old I become, I shall never forget how we received Stalin two days ago. Centuries will pass, and the generations still to come will regard us as the happiest of mortals, as the most fortunate of men, because we lived in the century of centuries, because we were privileged to see Stalin, our inspired leader. Yes, and we regard ourselves as the happiest of mortals because we are the contemporaries of a man who never had an equal in world history.

    The men of all ages will call on thy name, which is strong, beautiful, wise and marvelous. Thy name is engraven on every factory, every machine, every place on the earth, and in the hearts of all men.

    Every time I have found myself in his presence I have been subjugated by his strength, his charm, his grandeur. I have experienced a great desire to sing, to cry out, to shout with joy and happiness. And now see me--me!--on the same platform where the Great Stalin stood a year ago. In what country, in what part of the world could such a thing happen.

    I write books. I am an author. All thanks to thee, O great educator, Stalin. I love a young woman with a renewed love and shall perpetuate myself in my children--all thanks to thee, great educator, Stalin. I shall be eternally happy and joyous, all thanks to thee, great educator, Stalin. Everything belongs to thee, chief of our great country. And when the woman I love presents me with a child the first word it shall utter will be : Stalin.

    O great Stalin, O leader of the peoples,
    Thou who broughtest man to birth.
    Thou who fructifies the earth,
    Thou who restorest to centuries,
    Thou who makest bloom the spring,
    Thou who makest vibrate the musical chords...
    Thou, splendour of my spring, O thou,
    Sun reflected by millions of hearts.

    This is certainly another one of my favorite hymns:
    "Grace Greater Than Our Sin." Did not Jesus, the Christ, proclaim
    "All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out." ~ John 6:37
