"Was losing your eye worth it?"

"So, Valhalla...there's no way I could make a generous donation and perhaps gain entry in lieu of dying gloriously in battle, is there?"

I'd ask Odin what I'd ask any other god, deity, sage, or master I might encounter: What is Truth and how can I attain it?

In Dutch he's called Wodan, which is what I like best.

    Woden rules.

Odin btw is a simplification of Old Norse Óðinn. The proto-germanic form is reconstructed as *Wōđanaz. I've seen this explained as (and find it convincing):

    • *Wōđ: some sort of ecstasy; an inspired rage (in Dutch we still have the word 'woede', meaning 'anger' or 'rage'. We also have that word as a verb 'woeden', which we mainly use to describe what a storm does. 'Er woedt een storm' = a storm rages. Both imho convey only a mundane aspect of *Wōđ)
      ___
    • -an: indicating something like 'in control of', 'master of'
      ___
    • -az: just a grammatic suffix, in this case indicating male singular, like latin words ending in -us.

Alfather, how do you feel about your people turning their backs at you and submitting to Christianity? Do you still care about the Germanic people or have you given up on us?

    Hail Odin!

'Howdy Odin. How many of your followers are willing to become martyrs and die an ugly, violent, bloody and un-heroic death for your religion?'
'Militia est vita hominis super terram [The life of man upon earth is a warfare] (Job 7:1).'

I think he might remind you of the 5,000 Saxons that were slain by Christians because they would not convert.
Life is like a fire hydrant- sometimes you help people put out their fires, but most of the time you just get peed on by every dog in the neighborhood.
