If You Could Change an Event in History

If you could fly back in time to influence/change or otherwise alter the course of history - what would it be?

Instead of invading England, Harald Hardrada and his 10,000 Norsemen would go conquer and colonize Vinland instead, making their first settlement at what is today Prince Edward Island.

    Implications are vast...

    1) America is settled by a large Norse founding population 400 years before Columbus.

    2) The Battle of Stamford Bridge would never have happened, and Hardrada and his men would not have been slaughtered.

    3) Harold Godwinson would have not worn his troops out with two forced marches from Sussex to Yorkshire and back, nor would he have lost 5000 of them, including many leaders of noble rank. In this event, he would likely have defeated William of Normandy and England would have remained Anglo-Saxon, retaining their pure West Germanic language and culture.
Most people think as they are trained to think, and most people make a majority.

I would have prevented the use of African Slaves in the American Colonies, not out of any major sympathy for the Africans themselves, but instead as a way to prevent the massive addition of Africans as American citizens in later years along with the associated sense of "white guilt" that has undermined this country for the better part of a century or more. Also, I think that if African slavery hadn't occurred America might not have become the "profit-at-all-costs" capitalist nightmare it is today. For example, instead of huge cash-crop plantations agriculture in the South probably would have more closely resembled that of the north where the majority of farms were homesteads of free citizens.

I would have liked to have seen Hitler accept Chamberlains peace terms. This would result in Germany becoming a massive superpower possibly more powerful than the USA and USSR became also would have resulted in man reaching the moon sooner.

More importantly it would have averted a war that cost tens of millions of White European lives, scattered our populations across the world and encouraged our Governments to allow millions of Racial others to replace the dead and the ones who left to do the clean up works.

It also would have at the very least delayed the destruction of the British Empire, French Colonies especially Vietnam thus possibly avoiding the Vietnam War in the process as well as also avoiding the Korean War.

I think I could keep giving things that WW2 not happening would have changed but I think you get the point.
I grew up on a belief of honour, courage and the old world values. The world isn't about that anymore, preferring to die a slow death of fast food and cheap thrills.

If You Could Change an Event in History

If you could change an event in history, what would you change? Preferably something unrelated to the last two World Wars .

Myself, I would probably make sure Harold Godwinson won at Hastings. That way this language would be far more Germanic today, and we would have much more in common with Scandinavia than we do today.

I would also change Emperor Justinian's 'Reconquest' of the West Roman Empire from the Goths and Vandals. That way, some real trace of the Gothic people would exist today, and as a bonus the East Roman Empire would have been able to defend successfully against the Arab Islamic invasions.

The death of Christ. If he'd lived it probably would have just petered out and been forgotten. Perhaps none of the annoying nonsense for 2000yrs that we are still reaping the 'rewards' of.

If I could change an event in history, it would be changing the events at the battle of Hastings, so the Saxons would have won, thus keeping English as a purer language than it is today.

The battle of Hastings in 1066, seems to be a very popular response English speaking skadi members on here would love to change the result.

Right...the US economy and culture (especially in the South) would have taken a very different course.

I've also fantasised about averting the Norman Conquest. It might even have been possible in addition to the English defeating Hardrada. Harold Godwinson's (Swedish) mother advised him to surround William's army and starve them out, which might have worked.

Another would be changing the tactics of Boudicca's army of Britons so that they defeated the Romans at the Battle of Watling Street.

A modern one: not declaring war on Germany in 1939 and instead pursuing a policy of strengthening defences at home and throughout the Empire.

And twatting a certain boy at school who was a pain in the neck.
